was hoping for better signal strength (verizon)

Hi all! I just got my new shiny 6p. I had a samsung galaxy s3 and I was having a lot of signal issues in my house. I assumed it was because that is not samsung's strong point. (~-110 to -105 dbm). I pulled my sim and cut it down, plopped in 6p and almost the exact same dbm and dropped calls :(. Is there a chance it could be the sim card? I would rather avoid going into verizon to get a new card (grandfathered UL plan), but if there is a chance it would help, I would do it. thanks!

Probably not going to help. Sounds like you just have poor verizon signal strength in your house.

This is really concerning to me as I have Verizon and my Note 4 still struggles w/ signal strength even when people said it was something they addressed. While that is true b/c it wasn't as bad as the S3 I had prior, it still isn't good.

Anyone else used this w/ Verizon and had any issues w/ signal strength?

Can't possibly be worse than my M8. Not that the M8 is terrible, its just not as strong as soe of the others out there. If it is worse than the M8 I may have issues.

My signal strength with my S6 Edge+ was so so in my basement apt in Brooklyn. The 6P initially struggled and was super slow for about 15 minutes and I was thinking 'oh, no!' But then something happened and it became blindingly fast. Like, 50mbps DL speed. Way faster than Edge +. And call quality is amazing. So much better than iPhone or Samsung. What's interesting is when I activate tethering it doesn't say 'checking your subscription' like it did every time on Edge+.

Still trying to get used to Marshmallow and pure Nexus.

But I am SO HAPPY not to have any branding or bloatware!!!

specific phones make less of a difference than you would think. it might be 10% better or so if the antenna on a phone is much better, but the vast majority of it is just coverage from the cell towers, of which there are approximately eleventy billion variables, from how far away the cell tower is, to the frequencies your phone tries to connect to, to how good the building penetration is, line of sight, environmental factors, etc.

Even a signal magically getting better is more likely an upgrade to the tower by the carrier than something magical happening on the phone.

Do you happen to have VoLTE ("Advanced Calling") on for Verizon? The S3 couldn't do this IIRC and used the CDMA network. The new phone is most likely trying to use that and with your weak signal it is causing call drops. You can try turning VoLTE off and see if it helps.

How's the battery life? You did exactly as I'm thinking about doing; swapping the Edge + for the 6P

thanks! I never had issues until a couple years ago, but then I read a lot about poor s3 signal so I was hoping it was the phone :(

We had that happen. Found out after 6 months of complaining that they had adjusted antenna direction and my location in San Antonio was now a poor signal area. Ask to speak to tier 2 tech support and they can call local support in your area to see if there have been changes.

LTE Signal on Verizon Network

My 6P was delivered a couple of days ago and I noticed that my LTE signal has been non existent. I've noticed that at my house on my iPhone 6s Plus that I have 2-3 bars of LTE service. My 6P has full reception, but only shows 3G.

Am I missing something?

Re: LTE Signal on Verizon Network

Try going into settings, mobile networks and checking the preferred network type. Should be LTE. if it already is then toggle to a different choice and go back to LTE and see if that helps any.

Re: LTE Signal on Verizon Network

Do you get an LTE signal anywhere? If not, take it to a store for trouble shooting.

If you do get LTE at other places then chock it up to a difference in radio quality or configuration between the two phones.

Re: LTE Signal on Verizon Network

I have tested at other locations like my in-law's house where I have LTE on iPhone and only show 3G on 6P.

The Nexus has limited LTE, if at all when I'm out and about.

Re: LTE Signal on Verizon Network

please somebody else with a Verizon 6p verify that LTE works fine for them....

Reception is a touchy spot for me with new phones and everyone has been quiet about Verizon's network reception.
