Washed out screen

Update...checked my nexus 7 with a gamestop employee and his was not washed out. Went this morning and the Staples got a new shipment and I could see the difference. On the initial set up screen I could tell the purple was deeper and blacks less gray. If you feel its washed out, make the effort to compare and get a new one. this is a picture of the new one w/ the brightness all the way up.

In my experience these IPS screen need time to warm up,in some cases a week,
so you may have to put up with a washed out screen for that long.
I've also found a colour cast issue with t N7 screen that I've tried to deal with
in the "Nexus 7 screen: yellow colour cast" thread.

just had this problem tonight my screen has been bright colorful and nice.....but tonight i locked the screen set it down them picked it up 2 mins later and major major screen wash out. Blacks are now med. grey. When going back to the homescreen you can see the previous screen through the homescreen. This sucks..... Cuz my One S just bit the dust too...battery crashed will not charge. And cuz... there is no way for me to back up the app data and move it to my new device. Like game progress.

Here is pic of my wifes NS and my N7 with the same wallpaper.

Note that clock widget you couldn't even see the box around it before.

I just had this same issue, literally about an hour ago. Called customer support and they are doing a RMA for me. The csr told me there is a software patch that is rolling and the problem is either with the video driver or the auto brightness. I was instructed to do a factory reset, and turn off auto brightness. That didnt fix anything. I'm very disappointed but atleast they are responding quickly to resolve this. I should have my new tablet within the next 2 days (Thursday) possibly by tomorrow (Wednesday).

Wow, mine just started happening this morning. It was working great for the past 2 weeks. Then all of a sudden, after waking from sleep, completely washed out. If I play with brightness settings and deselect the auto option I can get screen back. Hopefully they will release a patch soon.

Is this a hardware or software issue? When I bought my Nexus 7 yesterday, I opened it immediately in the car and started it up so I could see if the screen was washed out, so I could return it immediately if it was (the store I went to isn't exactly close to my house).

I couldn't really tell since I couldn't connect to the Wi-fi in the parking lot to setup my account, and there was tons of glare from the sun, so I just decided to take it home. So far, the colors to me look fine, but I've been also using it with pretty dim brightness and I was on it practically all day yesterday. Honestly, if no one had said there were problems with the colors/screen, I probably would have never noticed.

I'm just worried about this happening to my screen in the future. Going through the refund process seems like a pain in the arse

I don't know whether it's software or hardware problem, BUT, after 2 weeks of working flawlessly, my N7 developed the white-out screen problem out of nowhere! I just contact Google and they told me to send it back... :(

I have also had this issue but i found an easy fix. All you have to do is go to display - screen brightness - toggle off auto brightness.
let me know if this helps
