Watch to go with new Note 10

Most everyone? I doubt it. You typically only hear the complaints, which is not an accurate representation of all the users. Sounds like you have a defective watch. I've never seen the error you posted. Don't doubt you, just never seen it. I think you're actually the person I've ever seen post about it.

I wear mine in the shower, running, eliptical, weightlifting, walking, HIIT. It gets plenty wet with sweat. The HR feature works just fine.

I'm guessing you've applied all the updates?
I took it to the Samsung837 space, theres nothing wrong with it. And they love to fix things - I had a faint ghost of the nav bar at the bottom of my year old Note 8bat the time, they replaced the screen, digitizer, battery and all of the radios.

They knew exactly what I was talking about, had gotten others with the same issue, and said the new watches at the time were not likely to be any better.

If I'm just living, I can get a heartrate any time. If I'm sweating and moving, like on an elliptical or treadmill, it won't read, and tells me to dry the monitor or stop moving. Not so with a Fitbit. That's all.

You're one of the few. Google it. If you're moving and sweating etc. most everyone gets a message telling you to dry it off or stand still - not really ideal when exercising. I got a heartrate reading without the error message about 1 in 20 attempts.
I'm one of the few too. I ride bicycles a lot for cardio and commuting and I've never seen that error or message pop up before and my heart rate is read pretty accurately during my rides. I have a S3 Frontier.

Honestly surprised. When I had the problem and googled for a solution, I found threads with dozens of others with the same problem and no solution. Between that and what they told me at the Samsung 837, I figured there was no 'problem' to be solved, the S3 Frontier was just a very good smart watch that just wasn't a very good health/fitness tracker.

Thank you! Just tried a few, got about a day and a half today with tracking for 3 half hour workouts, so it seems to be improving slightly

You're welcome. There are more tips out there and results will vary.

I'm guessing this Samsung 837 you keep referencing is the store number of your local Samsung shop? I don't have one in my town.

I agree with you that it is a very good smartwatch. I really think you have a defective watch. Like I said, I'm not a professional athlete and for my fitness workouts, it meets my needs. I would guess you're outside of your warranty window? You may try and contact Samsung Corp and see about a repair or maybe even an exchange for a reduced cost.

It's the Samsung 'future' store in NYC (all of the A/R, Samsung car, etc.), but because it's a big brand experience it's also by far the best place to bring anything for repair - they want you walking out of there In love with Samsung.

They took the watch in and replaced the screen and bezel but said there was nothing wrong with the sensor, ot passed the diagnostics, and said it always does - they had several in and the iwatch was 2 weeks out from launch.

Got the 46mm Galaxy Watch BT but am tempted to sell it and get the new Active 2 with ECG

ECG is not active on the watch. It has not been FDA approved yet so the watch comes with the ECG disabled.

I'm hearing that it could get activated "possibly" in Feb of 2020 but that just conjecture that I've read.

Hmmm, are you wearing it tight enough on your wrist?
I don't think it's that, because when I'm using it during the course of the day, it's fine. Just when doing cardio, moving and sweating. I have tried making it tight, and uncomfortably tight. Tried wearing it on the underside of my wrist while working out. Still got the same message.

That was my next thought. These watches are designed to be worn on the outside of the wrist, but you're wearing correctly.

We need to get back to the OP's original question.

You need to ask yourself what features you want in a smartwatch/fitness tracker. Everyone has different needs/wants in a watch. Every model of watch will have some bad lemons. If you run into an issue, research solutions. If nothing works, don't necessarily write it off as though that "model" is crap, but maybe you caught a bad one. The watches come with various features from one model to the next. Look at what they have and then decide from there.

Agree with the above, my comment was with regard to - if fitness tracking is your primary use, there are better options, and Samsung isn't very good with this; if 'smartwatch' functionality is what you're looking for, it's a great choice for users with Android phones and especially Samsung phones.

However if I see enough chatter about flaws in functionality, I'd certainly consider it in my decision. IMO you'd be foolish not to.

They're listed here in Ireland with ECG so I would imagine it is already approved here by the powers that be

Was thinking the same myself however surely the next galaxy watch 3 (whenever it arrives) will have all these features? I prefer the look of the galaxy watch but would like the ECG functionality plus the longer range of Bluetooth 5.0

I didn't realize that you're in Ireland. You may very well be right about it being already active there. Here in the US it is still awaiting approval before Samsung can make it available on the watches in this country.

Most reviews I've been reading say the Watch Actives aren't very accurate as a fitness watch. Not sure if it's the same for all Samsung watches or not.

I had a Galaxy Watch but I had to return it, I am now looking to replace it. I prefer the look of the Galaxy Watch over the Active Watch 2, is their any reason to get the AW2 rather than the GW?
