Watching movies on your TB?

Thanks. If it is a monthly subscription, I will not get it. For one time payment of just a few bucks, I've got TV Shows Stream and it serves the purpose for now.

Is it possible to watch movies using Blockbuster or Netflix on a plane?

What about BitBop on a plane?

Can WiFi be used in this case?

The only show I like that I did not find in there was "Two and a Half Men" ... now I can even go back and watch old episodes of X-Files, Fawlty Towers and Allo Allo, just to mention a few. And my kid likes to watch Ben10.

Ah, the X-Files? I'm getting this app now! Thanks.

And can someone answer my question above?

It all depends on whether they have wifi or you are allowed to use wifi inflight. It's been seven years since the last time I was on a plane. So I don't know what current regulations are..

EDIT: It appears you can purchase in-flight wifi access depending on the airline and the flight..

I've been thoroughly disappointed by the codec support for HTC though. I actually gave my father my Samsung Fascinate and took his upgrade for the Thunderbolt and I feel almost as if I am stepping backwards for a more expensive phone. Even with the 2.1 on the Samsung the codec support for videos and the quality of the screen was amazing. It played my AVIs/MKVs/MP4s flawlessly, regardless of the size (under 4gb of course because of FAT32 limitations). Here I get the TB and have a larger screen but it's just a plain LCD thats a little bigger. The colors do not pop like the SAMOLED. I do love the browser and 2.2/Flash but I am really surprised about the functionality of the Video playback. Esp seeing how we have a 1.2GHz processor and about 50-65% of my 800 movies (yes legal copies) do not want to play correctly. Some Stutter in a very odd way and a lot just do not even show up to play. Do you think there will be any more support for codecs in 2.3 or is it primarily just a company policy once they purchase codec rights? I do use handbrake and those files play flawlessly but my others that I did not personally encode are disappointing.

**Edit = If you are using handbrake (or want to that is) you should use SlySoft's AnyDVD running in the background to remove the copy protection from the dvd. So...

1) Start AnyDVD
2) Insert DVD
3) Start Handbrake & It will recognize the DVD
4) Pick your settings and Wala! (I usually use CD=19 or 20 and the size for a large dvd at 2hrs is about 1.1GB --> Perfect Quality to the eye)

Sorry CD is CQ (Constant Quality) or the RF#. Those are both the same. Not sure what I was thinking when I put CD haha. For those of you who do not know it is located in the "Video" tab of Handbrake

Thanks for the recommendation for SlySoft's AnyDVD. This works great along with Handbrake!! I have now successfully burned my beloved Star Wars trilogy (original series) to watch on my Thunderbolt! The music/audio sounds great with the headphones and surround sound on!!

Just one question, which anyone can answer. Is 720x480 the best setting using Handbrake? I've been using this setting based on this "Know Your Cell" how to article found here:
How to convert videos and transfer them to the HTC ThunderBolt - Know Your Cell

It appears to me that people's faces are maybe a bit vertically distorted at the 720x480 setting, meaning faces are too tall and thin. Might there be a better setting possibly?

Thanks, you guys are great for all pitching in on this topic!! Casey

I am using WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. I forgot how much I paid for it. I just rip the DVDs into normal avi (DivX) and then load it on the sdcard. I get no problems. I have been able to rip all the dvds i have tried so far so I think it also rips copyprotected DVDs.

Update: I found a better setting for Handbrake to avoid distortion. Choose 720 x 304 (instead of 480) and Check box for aspect ratio. For higher resolution, I also chose Bitrate at 2000 (instead of 1500) and checked box for 2 Pass Encoding. This increased video file size from 1.4GB to 1.88GB. Best part is no more vertical distortion of faces!
