We got pwned by the RAZR!!

If you purchased your Bionic in the last 14 days - you may want to hold onto it. It will surly be a collectors edition. I venture to bet that not ONE SINGLE Bionic @299 will sell forward of 10/18/2011 ----- Bionic is for all intensive purposes DEAD.

"Intensive" is not a word used in that context. What you mean to say is "for all intents and purposes." Just a pet peeve of mine.

This is like dating the prettiest girl in town and you are bragging to all your friends how Lucky you are to have her. Then a prettier girl moves and and you start wondering if she is better, even though you are happy with your current girl.

You do know how silly this sounds, right? oh. guess not. Here's what I wrote in another thread:

Y'all are too too much. The Bionic is a great device and is absolutely NOT obsolete and certainly NOT dead. The RAZR (man, memories, I had one of the original RAZRs back in the day) is a different device. Different form factor, will appeal to different people. Motorola runs their business like a... business. They are going to push out as many new devices as quickly as possible. Why? To make as much money as quickly as possible. That's IT. End of story. No company is going to tell you "I've got this great product coming to the market, but you should probably wait until xx/xx/xxxx when our even better, newer product is coming out."

Think people, please, think, before you post gibberish like this.

Disclaimer: I own a Bionic.

Honestly, the way I look at this is....if I was holding out for the RAZR, I'd be pretty pissed that it still has the 4 physical navigation buttons....hello, Ice Cream Sandwich - buttons are so passe'. At least when the Bionic was released buttons were still 'in'. Suck on that RAZR lovers!

That thinness will do your super Amoled screens in like paper watch it, a phone that big without the sturdy support for that screen is an accident waiting to happen, mark my words, within days of its release you will begin to see the screen breaks listed.

Read more of the specs before stating things, Gorila glass, Kevlar and Stainless steel contruction? How is that Bionic stronger and RAZR is an accident to happen? I have held it before and my DX felt better that that Bionic, felt like I was holding a Samsung?

Looks about the same FF to me, with the RAZR thinner and better. Alot of people would have gotten the RAZR if it was known to be out this soon.

No, not end of story. Much like Apple releases tons of iPhones right? oh wait... They run it like a business, right, by screwing over Bionic owners when they knew they had the RAZR in hand. They needed to get their money back somehow for all the R&D and would they by releasing a RAZR press release or marketing before the Bionic release so close? No wait, but no other company does that because they don't make two similar phones so close to each other, it takes alot of planning and money to make a new smartphone and these were made side by side with the intent of selling the better one a month and a half later, not saying anything at all is the same as lying, it's deceptive. And no, they would never saturate the market with as many phones as they could, it cost alot of money to make these phones from scratch, that's plain stupid or ignorant.

No company is going to tell you "I've got this great product coming to the market, but you should probably wait until xx/xx/xxxx when our even better, newer product is coming out."

No company has ever, in my knowledge, released two similar "flagship" devices within' about 2 months of each other.

I'm pissed.
Not because my Bionic all of a sudden doesn't work, but because my Bionic offers less of a value proposition. I may have still bought a Bionic but the Razr offers features that I would have like to have.

It's poor market and customer research on the part of Motorola.
They should have delayed the Bionic by two weeks and announced the Razr on Bionic ship day.
At least I could have made an informed choice. My value analysis never was about a Droid Charge or anything else, it was Motorola Bionic because of the features and form factor. For Motorola to release a nearly identical device that has enough overlap where more than 50% of the customers might make a different decision is a bad marketing move.

I for one, will never buy a new Motorola device. If I do think about buying Motorola again, I'll wait until the dust has settled. They have shot themselves in the foot. Customers will now wait before buying Motorola devices because they have established and shown that no matter what they, that they don't deserve minimal trust or customer loyalty.

I expect newer and better. I don't expect newer and better from my device manufacturer before the ink is even dry on my contract. This burns because it was done right outside the window for returns.

Motorola!! YOU SUCK!

Actually, it's not. Yes, it's thinner, but that doesn't necessarily make it better. You really want an android phone where you can't pull the battery if needed (see iPhone)?

What proof do you have that these two devices were made at the same time, with the intent of selling the other later?

Who said these were both "flagship" devices?

I returned my Bionic today, and am using a Droid X2. I actually really like this phone...I like the Droid X2 better than my Thunderbolt I recently sold!

I was planning on just putting the X2 up for sale on I get the RAZR, but I may just hang on to this thing and see what else is coming down the pike.

Actually...no I won't...I'm having LAPDOCK withdrawals already...

No interchangeable battery on the razr so its not heads and shoulders above the bionic... once someone can unlock the kernel we will be able to OC our Bionics

Not necessarily. I would guess that out of everyone who has ever posted in the Bionic section, close to half didnt know future phone were coming?

Dont assume that everyone who posts on online forums knows about pre release phone threads, or rumors, or future phones. I learned with the Droid X1/Shadow pre release thread to check around for future phones. A few weeks after getting my Droid 1 I learned about that pre release thread. Thats one of the reasons I didnt get the Bionic. Another is I didnt have the funds at the time.

Now that I do have the funds....I know about at least 2 future phones I might want,RAZR and Prime probably 3 with the Droid 4. Ppl should do more research before making any kind of electronic purchase. At the same time.....you cant wait forever for that amazing device you want. At some point you have to jump in. This situation is just kinda weird cuz the Bionic just came out....and now we have the RAZR coming out.

If you are on AC complaining about the RAZR following the Bionic, i promise more that half knew about what was coming. It's been 4-6 weeks and all these devices have been all over AC. Now the average person that walked into a Verizon, or saw the commercial don't even know about the damn RAZR yet. They wouldn't know crap about an official launch they had yesterday in NY, until the commercial hit TV half of ALL Bionic will find out about the RAZR. But at least 80% of the other half of the owners are here complaining about their purchase they made?!

Some people would complain if you let them sh!t in a gold toilet.

Don't get caught up in "this phone was the best! Then it wasn't! Waaaa!!" Does it do what you want, right now? If so shut up. If not, replace it and try your luck with something else.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is a direct response to the underwhelming announcement of the 4S?

I would think that the release of the RAZR in Nov was not in the original plans. I would bet that Motorola had its sights set on milking the Bionic through the inevitable iPhone 5 mania, and then releasing the RAZR once some headlines could be taken back.

However, once 4GS was unveiled, it became readily apparent to Motorola that if the RAZR was anywhere close to completion, that they needed to get it in before the holiday season.

The RAZR is the Motorola equivalent of the iPhone. It makes sense to have it compete against the softest iPhone entry yet, and gain what market share it can. This probably screws up their early 2012 release schedule, and I'd be willing to bet there are some bugs due to a bumped up release schedule, but I do think it's a smart idea for Motorola.

AMEN to this comment. It's the most reasonable explanation so far that I've read.

As a new (unhappy) Bionic owner - and owner of the iPhone 4 - this makes all kinds of sense. Within the iPhone community, there was INCREDIBLE hype about the next iPhone (as it turns out, the 4G) when everyone expected and WANTED the prototype iPhone 5 design. This design would have been equivalent to the Razr.

But, Apple surprisingly launched not the iPhone 5 as everyone wanted/expected, but a lame 4G. Those who already have the iPhone 4 (me included) were ready to spring for the new iPhone 5 design. Instead, I updated to iOS5... for free and got pretty much the same capabilities of the 4S! I have to add that the update ONLY brought the iPhone into direct competition with Android ... FINALLY!! But, without a big screen (iPhone is 3.5 inches) and NO flash capability, which makes many website inaccessible, it's still WAY behind the curve. The Razr (or Bionic, for that matter) would have left the iPhone 5 in the dust, had it materialized.

I am VERY disappointed that the Bionic has been replaced so quickly by the upcoming Razr. However, this poster certainly has great perception. I really think he/she is right on. Within the iPhone community, which I followed closely before the 4S launch, there was the predictable near-hysteria of anticipation that avalanched since Jobs made the iOS5 launch public months ago. His death added even more to the Apple/iPhone/iPad/iPod mystique. If I were an competitor, I certainly would have all my "guns" ready for action. And would have announced the launch of the Razr as direct competition to the (anticipated) iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 didn't happen on Apple's side. This pulled the rug out of the comptition. So, here are Moto's loyal customers sacrificed on the altar of competition. Here's hoping the Bionic has a REAL lifespan of more than 6 weeks... and gets ICS right away. Moto and VZ owe it to us Bionic owners - even though I doubt that will ever matter in the slightest.

But maybe it at least makes some sense ...??

Should of just got a iPhone 4s
