Wear OS 3 compatible with Android 10?

[Android Central Question]

Dear all,

since I have not found an explanation how the Wear OS version relates to the android version on the connected smartphone, I want to ask you all, if there is an information source, that can explain this.

Most articles describe if a wear os version was derived from an android version, but not if a certain Wear OS version needs a minimum android version on the connected smartphone.

I do not want to run in an incompatible state if I buy e.g. a Galaxy Watch 4 and cannot you use it with a smartphone with android 10.

Welcome to Android Central! There's nothing officially announced yet, but I'm certain it will be compatible with Android 10, and probably be compatible with versions back to Marshmallow (Wear OS currently requires Marshmallow or higher): https://wearos.google.com/wearcheck/#:~:text=Wear OS works with phones,for iPhone 5S+ and later.
