Weather App

I shall throw in my two cents here. BeWeather Pro has one of the best looking widgets I have seen, and a few nice features. it will let you use any truetype font for the clock and/or the text, and you can set clock taps to whatever clock you like (I use Alarm Clock Extreme).
Plus it was free on GetJar.

I vote for Weatherbug, too. I also have it on my desktop, I like the animated weather maps on both the PC and phone apps, 'cos they show you how far up **** creek you are, ie, how soon you have to put the car in the garage and take your knitter sweating off the line before it starts to rain. :D

I use fancy widgets. Update every hour through accuweather via GPS and my battery lasts 16 hours on harmonia 2.08 so I think it's the best choice. Tap the weather on the widget for a forecast :D

I'm experimenting with World Weather and Bits Weather Pro.

World is similar to Fancy.
Bit's is... Daunting, you assemble your own. Which is awesome when finished, but a bit of work to do. It has things others don't. Kind of the Launcher Pro of weather widgets.

I don't run a weather app in my phone at all. It takes up memory space. Instead, I bookmarked the mobile version of The Weather Channel website in my browser. It gives you all the info for your area when you touch the little "radar" looking button at the top. It will ask you to agree to share your location everytime you do this to update your position. Then it will give you current weather & all special alerts for that area! You get maps and everything else with it.Your stock News.apk will load the weather as well for your hometown. Nice! Now I have room for more stuff!

My latest...
Left half is Fancy Widgets, right half is custom Bits Pro.

Nothing else had the same features or looks I wanted. World Clock Widget was close though and if this sucks too much battery I will switch to it probably.

The stock Android weather app is fantastic but it doesn't work sometimes....

I never paid attention to how much battery that particular app was using up. I also have 3D Weather/Clock Widget. Maybe that's what's killing the battery in both the OV and my MT!
I'm ashamed that I've never checked this out before.
I wonder if there is anyway to cut the drain and still get the intel!? Uninstall the News.apk & the weather/clock widget, and just stick with my bookmark? You always give me great food for thought LeslieAnn. Thanks, I have new things to ponder & settings to check out now!

Weather wdigets can not only use data, but also GPS. Set a location manually, otherwise they can and will fire up the gps on every update.

Social networking can be terrible because of constantly pulling data.

News widgets are some of the very worst as they are constantly pulling headlines which has more data than a weather widget, but can also hit the GPS as well.

Some apps, even if you don't use their widget will still run in the background pulling ads, using the GPS, and pulling updates. Beware of freebies, even if weather is only pulled every hour or whatever, if it is using ads, those will suck down your battery. Ads will hit your gps.

I set weather widgets location manually then disable the GPS in the pull down. I also dump apps that run in the background for no reason and run an ad blocker.

I use Gemini App Manager to disable the apps autorun permissions. This, combined with long pressing the back button to kill apps when I'm done with them, ensures I don't have any apps running the background sucking up my battery or data without my knowledge.
