Weird box on homescreen

This popped up on my buddy's non-rooted s3 after it crashed and started looping. Phone also pops up a message about being in factory mode at times. I tried a Google search but couldn't find anything. Thanks for the help guys!

Tell him to do a factory resetto see if that clears up this problem. Otherwise, it might be time to take into Sprint for a new one.

I agree. Something isn't right.

We've reset it about 5 times. I was planning on trying to root to see if it'll fix it. If not I'm going to order a replacement.

I wouldn't even bother trying to root it. If a factory reset (5 times) didn't fix it, rooting will be futile. I'm going to say this is a hardware issue and it needs to be replaced.

It might. But if he factory reset his device 5 times, that's 5 times it returned to stock and all the development options would be back to normal.

No.... I mess with the development settings all the time and I've never seen anything like that.
