Weird bug with SMS / Virtual Keyboard

I'm finding sometimes when I use the onscreen keyboard, that as I'm typing the input box looks different and nothing comes up on the screen.

It's almost as if there's 2 different versions of the SMS app and it sometimes reverts back to the old version.

If I pop up the keyboard while this "other" SMS input box is up, the SMS never goes through.. or it dulicates SMS.

If I exit the SMS app and then reopen, it'll bring back the new input box and the SMS works fine.

I'm not sure I can explain it other than taking a picture of it.. anyone else experience what I'm talking about?

What I'm referring to is the "Type to compose" box being grayed out, with no red outline. This ONLY happens about 1 out of 10 times when i use the virtual keyboard.

When I'm typing, words are not appearing there.. if I open the physical keyboard to type, and press send, the SMS never goes through.. I have to manually close the SMS app, and reopen for the "Type to compose" box to ungray and show the red outline.
