Weird data (internet) problem on mobile data AND WiFi

I took advantage of the Best Buy deal today and got an HTC One (Verizon). Since I got home I've been frustrated by an odd data disconnect issue. If the phone goes to sleep and I am on WiFi (no matter how I have the phone set up in regards to WiFi when it goes to sleep, optimization, etc.) when I wake the phone - it reconnects to WiFi, but then I have no real internet connection. If I turn off WiFi, it will connect to mobile data fine. I can then turn WiFi back on, it will reconnect, and everything is fine.

On the other hand. When WiFi is off, and I am connected to mobile data. If it goes to sleep, when it wakes up I have the same issue. It reconnects to 4G but I have no connectivity. If I turn on WiFi, it connects and works fine. Then I can turn WiFi off and it connects to mobile data and works fine. I can also simply turn off mobile data after it wakes up. I don't even enable WiFi. Then reenable mobile data, and then it will reconnect and work fine.

A reboot also solves either connectivity issue.

One last caveat. I think I have even lost my data connection without it sleeping at least once. It was after several minutes. But after hours fooling with this, I am not even sure if my memory is reliable here. But, I THINK, I once lost data without even letting the phone sleep and had to do the disable/re-enable to fix it.

I have seen lots of threads online about WiFi issues, and seen some threads about mobile data issues. But, I haven't found anything like this where BOTH are failing when waking the phone up. I'll probably just take the phone back tomorrow and try swapping it, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas what may be happening here.

I think I have it fixed. I tried a (second) factory reset, and in the initial setup, I skipped entering in my gmail, so the phone didn't begin installing all of my apps. I am not exactly sure which app was causing the problem, but after manually selecting which apps to download, I haven't seen the issue. After 2 previous Android phones (including a rooted Droid), and an Android tablet (which I got rid of) there are LOTS of apps from the Android Market (sorry I still prefer this name to the "Play Store") that I have had installed at one time or another. I tried installing a few apps I thought might be the problem, but was unable to reproduce it.

Anyway, enjoying the phone much more now. Seems snappy, though I don't have much use for BlinkFeed.
