Weird HDMI/Wi-Fi issue: wifi connection fails only when HDMI is plugged in

I'm trying to connect my MAXX HD to my TV so I can watch those fine HD Youtube videos on a bigger screen - through my wifi connection. But every time I plug in the HDMI cable, the wifi cuts out. Unplug the cable, and it's fine again. Issue persists across all apps on my phone, which is really quite a bother. I experience no issues with wifi at any other time, and otherwise, my HDMI connection works great. The issue does not occur with another device I own (a Blackberry Playbook, albeit). Thoughts?

I had precisely this exact same issue on the Rezound whenever I connected the phone via MHL. Never could figure out the cause.. I've always assumed it was a hardware limitation but now I'm wondering if that's by design in Android. Shame too because watching movies via Google play would be nice if I didn't have to kill my data plan to do it.

I'm talking to Moto support right now, and hopefully will have a resolution soon.
For reference, troubleshooting we attempted:
Powercycle device.
Clear partition.

Not much to try, unfortunately. The level 2 tech representative admitted that they have not seen this issue before. Because I am not using a branded Motorola HDMI cable, they are mailing me one... for free! (Retail value is $29.99 on their web site.) I will receive this cable sometime next week and will post an update to the thread if it works.

Good customer service so far...
