Weird issue with RAM being taken up instead of internal memory used

[AC Question]

I suspect (hope) its some weird setting that I can't find.

I just bought a Matricom G-Tab Quantum.
I'm having problems with the RAM being filled up and it not putting programs onto the Internal Storage so telling me I can't update software.
Note I've already moved all programs it is possible to the SD card and its almost all Google standard software that is filling things up.
The only strange thing I did was unplug my SD card from my old Xoom and put it directly in the Matricom without reformatting and redownloading.

If I go to settings/Storage I have 3 categories of memory
Internal Storage total space 788 MB (I'm assuming this is the ram with the operating system)
Available 227 MB
Apps 571 MB
Cached Data 1.68 MB

Internal Storage
Total Space 11.29GB
Available 11.18 GB
Apps 113MB
Pictures 48 KB
Audio 40.0KB
Downloads 8.00 KB
Cached data 3.93 MB

SD card
Total Space 29.31GB
Available 10.7GB
(note on SD card -- it was the same SD card I had with my previous tablet and I haven't (erased and redownloaded)

Welcome to Android Central! No, none of those is your system RAM. RAM usage is shown in Settings>Apps>Running.

The 3 partitions you're seeing are App Storage (the first Internal Storage you have listed), which is where apps are installed; "Internal SD" (the second Internal Storage you have listed), which is part of your onboard storage that is partitioned to act like an SD card; and the physical External SD card.

That did clear it up though trying to decide why in the world a new 10 inch tablet would decide to do it that way is another thought as based on the post you referenced there doesn't seem to be any reason to do so with a modern build. It helped a lot when I moved everything it would let me to the SD card. Though its sort of frustrating to have as much of that space filled with the "base" programming like it does.

I take it altering that partition isn't possible without rooting (or is it even possible with rooting)?

Yeah, you'd need to root before messing around with the partitions, and you'd probably run a significant risk of bricking the tablet as well.

Even though your tablet is new, the brand is not recognizable to me, which suggests that the device is relatively low end--it may be using fairly outdated hardware, or the firmware itself may be outdated as well.
