I just checked the demos out at a Best Buy and I think they are both very nice and dangit I didn't mind the notch nearly as much as I thought I would.

The XL is slightly bigger than I'd like, but not outrageous, while the 3 is just slightly smaller than I'd like.

Neither are the perfect size, but neither are hideous. I kinda think I'd actually buy the XL IF I bought one. I'm still going to wait for reviews before jumping on one.

I just wanted to say I may have been a little too quick to criticize the XL and gestures and I was pleasantly surprised by both as well as the 2XL. I really really liked the panda 2XL. But the 2XL was noticably slower and heavier.

My GS8 still works just fine (other than wireless charging not working anymore and I hate the glare of the curved screen, hate Bixby and button and some potential Bluetooth issues, not sure if it's phone or earpiece issue) and I still owe @ 200 bucks.

Kinda funny aside. We actually went to Best Buy so my wife could check out iPhones, which I did as well. While messing with an iPhone XS the only thing I could think was how it hasn't changed since I last used one, which was the 4S. Obviously it's changed, but it still looks exactly the same.

So glad I switched and our little trip just reinforced for me that the reason I switched wasn't necessarily how much better Android is, but rather how stale iOS is.
