I'm very interested in Android TV, but not so much in the Nexus Player. The reason why, and this seems to be something people are overlooking, is that it's a Nexus.
People are making a big deal over what's missing, but let's take a look at the device.
It has low storage. How many Nexus devices have a lot of storage?
No external storage ie microsd slot. That's par for the course for a Nexus.
No HDMI pass-through or ethernet port. Is that surprising when you think of a Nexus?
I think this device will be what all other Nexus devices will be. A no frills demo of what the OS can do. It's low priced and will get quick updates.
I think Google will leave it to their partners to produce devices that have more of the options that we are looking for. That's when I'll look to make a purchase. Give me an LG player, I'll pass on the Nexus.
