what am I doing wrong?

So I just picked up a Gear S via Verizon. When I download Gear Manager and try to connect it downloads an update for about 2-4 secs and before it even gets to 40% it starts to flip out. Constantly flashes on and off. Sometimes it will start downloading again, sometimes it won't. I've tried uninstalling the app and starting fresh but nothing. I can't activate the damn watch and I'm getting a little flustered. I've also tried soft resetting the phone. I haven't hard reset it because the rest of the phone and software is already working properly. Any suggestions?
