What am I getting with Moto X/$499 Verizon model online?

Hi everyone,
I tried to search so I apologize if this has been answered directly. I'm looking to switch to Verizon this weekend for my wife/I and I really was looking forward to possibly getting the Moto X directly from Moto site unlocked/"Pure Edition" to use on Verizon.

I saw some threads that the "Pure Edition" isn't for Verizon but only for GSM (aka Tmo/ATT).

So my question is, what are you getting for the $499 "off contract" price on the site for Verizon service? Any benefits? Will it just come with no Verizon bloatware I guess, but don't see any other benefits (ie. plan/contract too?)

Thanks in advance! :)

Your only benefit is no contract. It is the same phone whether it's full retail or subsidized. Bloatware and all.

And yes, pure edition comes with a TMo Sim card, but works with either ATT or TMo. Won't work on Verizon.

Only benefit is now avoiding their new etf policy change. They never quit trying to screw us. Think real hard before coming to the dark side.

Yea I was "already" there years ago, for many years :) However, TMo signal blows where we live and travel yearly. So, it's back to the dark side again for us!

If you have unlimited data, it's a way to get a new phone and keep your unlimited data without going through any hoops.

I think that's a poor choice, of you bought it on contact for $99 and then decided to leave Verizon its a $350 etf. You still save $50.

There's no unlocked pure Verizon.

Yes, but that's only part of the financial analysis. You also have to look at total 24-month cost of ownership and there it really depends on how much data you use. On-contract monthly access is $40/mth. If you buy outright, monthly access is $25/mth if you buy less than 10gb of data; $15/mth if you buy 10gb+ of data. So, if you're on-contract using 10gb+ of data you're going to pay $699* for a phone that costs $499 to buy outright. If you buy less than 10gb/mth it's slightly cheaper to go on-contract ($459 vs $499 device cost).

tl:dr: If you buy/use more than 10gb+ data a month, buying this phone outright is cheaper device cost over 24 months than buying on-contract.

* $25/mth saving ($15 vs. $40 access fee) x 24 months = $600 + $99 = $699.

To my knowledge Verizon does not discount any monthly rates for a contact vs non contact device.

This is true. I was going to buy mine through Motorola credit but found out Verizon will still charge me the full $40/month. Only time you get a discount is if you use edge so I decided to use edge (10gbs/mo) and now pay $42/mo for my line. ($15 service +27.xx for edge agreement). Edge is the smartest way to go until they stop being crooks and charging people the built in subsidy when the contract is over/bring your own phone.

I'd rather buy the pure edition from Motorola. I have a question about *estimated taxes from Motorola payment page; it's calculating my taxes incorrectly at 10% when its suppose to be 8%? If click check out will it calculate my taxes correctly? I've contacted motorola via chat and they were no help. Thanks.

That is incorrect. I have 4 lines on my account that are paying a reduced rate of $15 and only one of them is using Edge. The others are past their contract date or have a phone that was paid in full. You just can't get the disk until if you are still on an unlimited plan, you need to be on the new share plans.

I just bought a full priced Verizon Moto X. (Well $140 off thanks to Motorola friends and family pricing) If I am off contract with unlimited data, but my old phone has a different sized sim, what is the way to activate the new Moto X? Should I use the sim that came with the phone direct from Moto and switch my phone online through Verizon's website? That wouldn't cause any issue, incur a fee, or otherwise change my no longer available super cheap unlimited data plan right?
