Macro mode is a function of some camera apps, so try Camera FV-5 Lite or Open Camera.

I often wonder if that's true macro and not just some digital cropping since in the camera world it requires a bit more lens to achieve macro.

Evidently most phone cameras are capable of focusing closer than most apps focus to, because I've gotten focus at less than an inch with FV-5.
