So with a lot of talk about ice cream sandwhich, what do you guys think the chances are of motorola screwing us over and not giving us ICS? Honestly i love my phone and if that were to happen that would be its only downfall for me. I'm hoping to see ICS by january especially if all the kinks/bugs are worked out of the phone by nov. What do you guys think?

i would hope that any high end device released in 2011 would eventually see an ICS update. i would hope.

the timing part is tricky. dont forget that moto still needs to blur it up before youll see it (you wont get a stock build), and then it has to pass through verizon for approval as well. if i was a betting man, i would say march would be a solid guesstimate as for when it would drop

We have several other ICS sandwich threads. In the end we will get ICS in either of two ways:
1. Independent Developers
2. Motorola will do an OTA update
Both are possible, Independent developers will happen faster, but you'll have to be rooted and you have to understand flashing custom ROMs and such. But it'll probably be a better update anyways.

I would bet the Bionic will be the first device to get it (other than the Galaxy which will come with it).

How long it will take them is anyones guess.

The odds of the Bionic getting it are 100%.

It would require an unlocked bootloader whether that happens or not. The kernel in ICS would be different so the current stock kernel would not work with an ICS rom.

The chances are close to zero. @motorola posted on twitter that the Razr, the Bionic and the Xoom tablet will all get ICS, and that they will announce which other devices will get ICS 6 weeks after Google releases the code (which will be sometime in November.) Now, it's possible that Verizon will not approve an ICS update for the Bionic, but I see no reason why they would not, if Moto prepares one that works on the network.

Saying that, how would Bionic owners be screwed by not getting ICS? Is GB not good enough?

I honestly don't care about ICS. Motorola and Verizon have shown how badly they can mess up an upgrade. When I upgraded my Droid X from Froyo to Gingerbread, I wanted to throw it through a wall. The OTA upgrades are usually terrible.

It will get it. The things is it will be a lil different since the Bionic has buttons. Which is why I dont understand why Moto made the hardware bezel so thin on the RAZR but added so much screen bezel and used buttons.
