What are the notification LED color meanings & how do you set them?

I've seen white, yellow, green and red for my notification LED colors. However, I'm not sure what each color means. I assume they are tied to specific types of notifications or specific apps (like the red only first showed up with the new Sports Center app when I had a score update notification).

1) is there a way or place to find what apps have assigned what color on the notification LED?
2) is there a way to change or set notification colors?

I don't believe there is a way to check or set them, unfortunately. However you quickly learn what light corresponds to which notification.

Lightflow is a popular app that allows you to set your notification light up the way you want it, you could try that if you want to customize it.

Disappointing that it can't be done stock...

Thanks for pointing me to Light Flow. However, I don't think I want to pay for this feature (also shows many people having issues on the N5 with this app). So for now, I will just live with it.

I have been using the free version of LightFlow on my N5, and it's been working just fine without any flaws so far.

I'm using the paid version of Light Flow on my N5, no issues. I heard there were problems the first few days the N5 hit the street, but Light Flow's developer quickly released an update, and as I've said I have no problems with it working properly on my N5.

I agree with paying for apps to help support developers. But to me, the feature is not worth the few bucks...

1) I don't know which apps use the LED but for me the only one that does is Textra
2) Textra can set the colors however I want them; red for female friends, yellow for guy friends and green for wife. It can also set (or silence) for each individual person too.

I agree with paying for apps to help support developers. But to me, the feature is not worth the few bucks...

If you want to be able to know the type of notification you have just by glancing at the phone then it sure is! Plus, it also lets you choose the blinking speed of the light.

Another vote for the usefulness of Light Flow, which works like a champ on my N5 and is definitely worth the price (though you can do many things with the Lite version).

It can be done stock. Try Light Manager. Works flawlessly unrooted. If you root you get even more options. Easier to set up than Light Flow as well.

Another vote for light manager. Great app. Works perfectly for me. I got used to this feature on custom firmware, and was happy to find it as an app.

I'd say Light Manager too, great app, very easy to set up. I use it in conjunction with the Do Not Disturb Mode App.

Same here! Works great for the basics. Thinking about getting the paid version to have total control but for now the free version is awesome
