What are your current gripes with the Pixel / XL?

No quick setting for sound. On my previous phones I could swipe down into quick settings and quickly switch from sound, vibrate, silent. Not available on this phone.

Instead of swiping down if you press the actual volume button, the volume control will show. If you press the bell icon, it will change between vibrate and sound. I would think that should take about the same amount of time.

Small gripe: I wish the mic and speaker positions were reversed.

Just from the way I hold my phone when messing around with it, watching videos or playing games, my hand covers the speaker sometimes.

That sounds like a bug. it should definitely open the app when you click on the notification.

It's because you have to double click it. Works as it should for me with email, text, etc. A single tap would in my opinion be annoying because it would be too easy to inadvertently launch the app while you were browsing notifications.

that's weird. my nexus 6p allows me to open app from notification with 1 click. is that a pixel thing?

Not to my knowledge. On my pixel, if I want to, say, jump to the email in Gmail from a notification - I have to double tap it. Same if I get a text, need to double tap to view the text in Messenger. It's been this way for me since the Nexus 5. Some non-google apps may require one click, which is where there is potential for confusion. For example I have a weather app that keeps a constant notification up - if I click it once it launches the app, but anything google related needs a double click. WhatsApp needs a double tap as well.

haha, have you try to just click it once? I just click a gmail notification, only took me 1 click on my nexus 6p with 7.1.1. I have always open app through notification with only 1 click and I have every nexus since nexus s.

I do not have a pixel or Nexus 5, but on my Droid Turbo one press is all that is needed to get to the app from the notification shade. Are you referring to the lock screen notifications or the notification shade pull down? From the lock screen it is 2 presses...

Let me be perfectly clear in saying I'm not hating on the phone. I'm loving it. It's super snappy, the camera is just as fantastic as the reviews made it out to be, it's overall a rock solid device that will hopefully sell in large numbers.

But coming from the 6p, there are two things that I am already really wishing this phone improved on.

-Speakers. I know dual front facing speakers are becoming a thing of the past, but the mono speaker in the 6p is leaving much to be desired. It is acceptable for the occasional youtube video, but my big gripe is in notification volume. At max volume, it is about as loud at the 6p was at about 3/4 volume. I have a feeling that is really going to bug me. Some days ive got things going on where that loud notification volume on the 6p was very nice to have.

- the Haptic feedback motor. I should have known, being HTC built, that the vibration motor wasn't going to live up to the 6p. I prefer the awesome feedback the 6p gave. It felt precise, quick, and premium. The motor in the Pixel actually makes it feel sloppy and cheap. If you dont have the phone yet, it feels exactly like the motor in the HTC one M8.

Overall I'm happy with my decision, but what are you finding that you maybe wish was a little better?

EDIT: I know everyone's excited to give their inputs! Lets try to keep things in the perspective of people who have had hands on experience with the device to keep the flux of info as accurate and true to life as possible!

Speakers and the phone is a little thick. Good quality build though. Kinda miss my moto Z a little. The Z with the Incipio power back was a ridiculous battery for sure.

I have noticed this too. 1 press expands the notification, the second opens the app. The expansion step is nice because you get a lot of info at that point.

Went to Chat support through settings to ask about Ambient Display. Google Chat rep didn't even know anything about the Pixel. When he asked about what version of android I was running and I said Nougat 7.1, he said I was using a developer preview and that I needed to leave information through Feedback. He didn't know what the Pixel was until he looked it up. Guess Reps aren't quite ready yet.

Be patient, their learning curve will greatly improve. They were clueless in the beginning of project Fi as well. Now, I consider Fi support some of the best I've ever used. Your questions and frustrations will help them improve.

I am switching from the iPhone, and so far I really like the Pixel. My ONLY complaint is a feature missing that I often actually used on the iPhone. Basically, with force touch on the iPhone, you can hard press down on the keyboard, and it basically becomes a little trackpad that allows you to move the cursor like a mouse pointer. This is an EXTREMELY useful feature to quickly and highly accurately position the text cursor exactly where you want it.

I wish that there was something like this on the pixel. (maybe there is and I am missing it?)

I also wish there was a way (maybe 3rd party app?) to have ambient display either stay on all the time (like always on display on the Galaxy) or have it flash like maybe every 15 seconds or so until I clear the notification.

Minor things really:

- I'd like it if the notification light lit up when charging. Would like it to be Red while charging then change to Green when it charged. So far I don't think there's a way to find out the phone is fully charged until you wake the device up.

- The pulses timing of the notification light is a bit long. Would like it shorter so I'm not staring at the phone waiting for the pulse.

- The screen is visible outdoors, bit it would be nice if it were a little brighter.

Other than those things, I haven't had any issues. Performance is off the charts, camera is excellent. Really happy with the device and this is coming from someone who had the Note 7 and HTC 10.

Fingerprint scanner is on the back and isn't the home button. No AOD. The stock timer is hard to configure or I am very bad at it. Again, maybe me, but I feel the settings are more confusing for less stuff so to speak than my Note was. None of this is enough to make me dislike the phone but annoying.Oh and the boot up screen, those little bouncing balls is cute but goes on WAY too long.

If you tap on text, it will have the cursor with a little ball thing under it, you can put your finger on that and move the cursor around. That's the closest thing to what you're after I believe.

I am unimpressed with the Pixel and will be returning it. This was my first choice after being forced out of my Note 7 that I loved. I looked past it not having an SD card, I looked past it not being water/dust proof, the smaller screen and the smaller battery. Gave gave it a try and after 24hrs Verizon can have it back.
I don't like the bare bones android, I saw spoiled with TouchWiz, the cell service is absolutely horrible! I use to spend literally hrs a day talking on my Note from my office, now I cant even dial out. Then today the final straw, the bluetooth will not connect to my car, it connected to my wifes car and my BT headset but not to my F-ing daily driver.
I will back back on my Note 6 before the end of the day.

Not as unhappy as you but the wi-fi connection, which Iforgot to add to my list on here is awful compared to the Note and going forward is going to be a problem if it doesn't improve. But I am exhausted from two months of dealing with the Note's recalls, twice, and not about to set up yet another phone, or make my account murkier than it already is. The Pixel isn't a bad phone, it just isn't the one I really wanted. But you know, you can't always get what you want.
