So i ordered my
Trident Cyclops case a while ago and it finally came in the mail today. I've used it for a couple hours now and I've officially formed an opinion having put it in my pocket, used it for texting, calling, yadda yadda.
Whats in the box: The hard plastic case which has a screen protector built into the front. The rubber jacket which slips around the outside of the hard plastic case once installed. A 3.5mm headphone jack extender (you'll see why this is necessary shortly). And a little tiny screen protector for your camera on the back of the phone ... yes ... they got that detailed.
Installation: Took about 60 seconds. Very easy and intuitive.
1) Clean camera screen and apply protector.
2) Remove screen protector protector (that thin film sticker on screen protectors) from inside of the case
3) Snap hard plastic case around phone
4) Apply rubber housing around the outside edges of the hard plastic case. Think of this rubber outside as an
iphone 4 bumper.
Impressions:
1) I'm not sure I've ever saw a case that would protect my phone so well. I honestly feel like this case would take a bullet for my phone

but....
2) The case is so bulky, it takes away from the pleasure of owning such a slim nice phone. A co-worker of mine made the following comment "That case looks great except it's expanded the dimensions of your phone about a foot in every direction". Even carrying it in my pocket has become significantly more noticeable.
P.S. This is why it comes with an extended 3.5mm headphone jack. The case is so thick the male jack on your headphones might not work so it was nice of them to include the extender. If your curious, my skullcandy headphones did not require the extended jack to work.
3) You may notice i didn't say to apply the screen protector to the front of the phone. That's because it's a "bubble free" screen protector and is actually attached inside the case. You don't apply it directly to your phone. At first i thought it was going to feel like using a resistive touchscreen again. In reality, it's nice and clear and works quite well without distorting the image or making me feel weird typing on it. The case is so well formed to the phone that there is literally no gap between the screen and the screen protector. Surprisingly, it feels "normal" to use it.
It's not all sunshine and bubblegum though. The screen protector seems to be completely void of any grease/finger print resistive material. Every single touch or swipe leaves no wonder what part of the screen you've used.
4) This case has rubber covers which plug the 3.5mm headphone jack port and the micro USB port. These are quickly realized as being a real PITA to open. It takes me 5+ tries each time before i can get them open. I decided to run a quick experiment and handed the phone to a co-worker and asked him to open the headphone cover ... 7 tries later the headphone cover was open. Next i asked a female co-worker with nails to try ... 1 shot 1 kill she opened it the first try.
Final Thought: If you are in an line of work which is prone to phone breaking, such as the construction industry, or are just generally hard on phones, this is the case for you. At $30, it's the best protection I think you'll get for a cell phone. I truly am impressed with it and would have no problem recommending it to any parent that does not feel like paying the deductible to replace their skateboarding son/daughters broken Nexus. If you are the office type and usually keep your phone nicely tucked in your pants pocket, this might not be the one for you. The bulk, that same bulk that adds the amazing protection to it, also fills up a pocket quickly. I kept it in my suit jacket pocket for a while and found that to be much more comfortable than the pants pocket method. The problem is, i don't always wear a jacket and then the phone would be relegated to my pants pocket.
Nobody can tell you what is perfect for you, that's something you need to decide on your own. But when discussing cell phone cases you need to consider the level of protection, the quality of the case, and the cost. If you need the level of protection and quality to be high, while maintaining a reasonable cost, i would suggest you at least consider
the cyclops.
