well Im freaking glad I didnt do it then. I was following the steps in the How to root thread. I didnt read anything about odin.

First of all I would find another source for the root file. Second of all you do not unzip the the folder period. The file needs to be flashed to your phone via Odin..

actually this is not a flashable version , this uses ADB connection

I would just disable your antivirus... i havnt tried z4root for the Fascinate. and i dont think he will find it in the market , it would have to be sideloaded

ooookkkkkk so really I shouldnt be doing this at all??? Where do I find what I need?????

Are you using the 1 click method from the how to root posting? It went off for me without a hitch. I just rooted my and my wife's phones yesterday using it.

I've encountered a number of other problems since, most of them my own doing, but that worked just fine.

Wait, all it says is to extract the folders contents and then click the folder that says root. Says nothing about ADB, Odin or anything else.....am I missing something??? Its the one click method.

ok try this, according to the developers it is compatible with all galaxy S phones
xda-developers
Download this, either to your computer or directly to your phone. and open it and hit the button. pretty simple. you will need to allow unknown sources

settings>applications>check unknown sources

Yes @theanarchy. I dont understand it then, cause when I download the file my antivirus says it contains a trojan.

My apologies, the one click root is very simple. Just look up the video on YouTube posted by accessorygeek.com. It gives a detailed video of the process posted on android central's website.

no you are not missing something, with the HOW TO ROOT method, you open it , extract it, and hit start root ,,,, with your phone plugged in and in USB debugging mode

settings>applications>development> check debugging

Really??? My phone is checked with the allow unknown sources and it says not compatible with my phone.

I use Kaspary and I dont know if turning it off and running a risk of letting a trojan in is worth it. It says Trojan /linux/rooting.

any type of key generator or a rooting method is technically a trojan.... because the program is meant to gain superuser access to your system,,,in this case you are the person who is attacking your own systems security
