What do you Dislike about the GB update

I used stock froyo for a week when i bought my Atrix, i thought it looked dead...then i decided to root the phone, and install "GingerBlur"...then i thought it was "cool"; in reality looked great but it crashed the phone a lot, it was not as stable as stock froyo. Thanks to motorola's recovery application via their website, i was able to return my Atrix to stock and upgrade to Gingerbread. In my opinion it looks wonderful; big improvement! runs faster, so far haven't encountered any lags (I play a lot of heavy games: spiderman total mayhem, modern combat 2 hd) and some of the new tegra games designed for this device. The icons look better, clean and modern. Couldn't be any happier, specially because they allow to install apps outside the market and getting rid of AT&T's security nonsense. Battery life still great, haven't noticed any changes. I did noticed the processors don't get as warm as they used to in 2.2 when over working the phone. Anyway, good job motorola! Keep improving! :)

You don't understand the lag complaints because your device isn't lagging, obviously. Trust me, if it were anything like mine and some others', you'd be right here with us complaining about it and trying to find a solution to it. We're not trying to find a solution to an imaginary problem; we're trying to find a solution to a problem that is only on some of our devices after the update to GB, not all, but is still as real as can be.

Not even talking about going as far as watching videos or anything man, we're talking about simply swiping between homescreens lag and choppiness.
mine doesn't lag, and seriously, mine's overloaded with crap in each home screen... i did noticed something strange...since i removed the fingerprint lock, it performs better~

Wish homescreen could switch to landscape orientation, not a fan of the browser icon either, app drawer should he able to move to any spot in the launcher, agree that contact display name should be a choice, and lastly why is battery percentage not shown in the battery mngt screen anymore?
lol, that browser icon is bad... just download google chrome browser icon to replace that one or the firefox one (via market)...or just download another browser. I use "maxthon" totally rocks! :)

you're all mad.
This is the build it SHOULD have launched with.
Performance difference is night and day on mine. Also my SIP apps work now (finally).
A few aesthetic complaints who cares.

I had the 2.3 gingerbread update since Saturday and I really like it the task bar is dark instead of light. It seams little faster and more responsive. The only thing I didn't like was the app drawer icon on the right side but Im getting used to it now great job

....I prolly should check out Nexus S at best buy and maybe sell Atrix and get that phone... at least I'll have vanilla android and timely updates with it... (although i'm not particulary fond of SAmoled+ display)

I'm on holiday for the rest of this week, but first thing Monday, I'm hitting Best Buy for an extensive hands-on w/the Nexus S. I'll let ya know what I think about it.

One way or another, I gotta get another phone, coz this GB "update" has fried the radio in my Atrix, and it no longer gets cellular connectivity. It only works via WiFi. It's the end of the road, between me and this Atrix.

Just a guess but I think that most of these people whining about the performance of the new update had rooted phones. Common sense would tell most people that a phone that had significant, previous unauthorized modifications to it operating system might not function perfectly when upgraded. Who knows what tiny bits of incompatible code are luring in a previously rooted phone. I have no problems with people rooting their phones. But to then bad mouth Motorola because their modified phone isn't function perfectly with the upgrade is pretty lame. My phone, (never rooted) is functioning better with Gingerbread than it ever has. Well done Motorola.

Nope, was never rooted or altered my phone in any ways other than the downloading of apps like any normal user.

Okay, so I just held down the power to reboot my phone because it hadn't been restarted in a couple days and I just wanted to see if the lag would go away completely now.
My phone won't boot past AT&T's "Rethink Possible" screen now!!! Are you #$%^&*($# KIDDING me. I am so fed up with this **** now. I was finally content with the lag since it was sporadic and not nearly as bad as in the beginning of the update, but now my phone doesn't even work and I've done absolutely nothing to it to cause this. I pulled the battery and it still doesn't go past rethink possible. it sits there. if I use the fingeprrint scanner to unlock (as if I were on my homescreen) it vibrates like usual but then nothing happens. This. Is. Ridiculous. This is my 2nd atrix and my contract ends in like 2013.

Re: Downloading update 4.9.51. NOT beta!

Well, after unrooting (was a waste of time to root it for the 1 day it was rooted after all, lol), the Moto software DID find "an update" for me, it said, contrary to what my phone has told me...

Never rooted huh?

I can't get signal :( My phone keeps losing all signal randomly.
If I return phone, can I get iPhone 4?

It was a wonderful try, and I completely understand why you think what you're thinking (I would think it too), but I guarantee you 100% you're wrong. And next time, trying to sound a little less snotty about it would do you a lot of good.

I have had issues with this phone previously. My phone is now doing the exact same thing it did when it randomly rebooted in the middle of fiddling with an app called "WidgetLocker" or whatever it was called, which I posted about in this thread here (go ahead, have a look). After three battery pulls, the phone has now passed the Rethink Possible screen, and I'm now staring at my homescreen with apparently absolutely zero mobile service. Just - like - last - time (rebooted during widgetlocker). This is the same exact issue now, again. Both caused by a reboot, not by any root or anything even closely related to that side of android at all. Since I am having my exact issue presented to me again, I know that if I turn my phone off right now, there's no coming back. So as of now, it's sitting behind me, on but with no mobile service. I was going to try & see if I had any other option this time, since I've gone through this before, but I came back to this thread and found your snotty nonsense first. So, if you want to say something incredibly generalized and stupidly broad like, "the people who are having problems with Gingerbread are people who had messed with their phones before updating", go ahead my friend, be an ignorant snob. However, the issue with my phone right now is not because it was rooted for literally not even 24 hours on Froyo, with absolutely NOTHING done with it in terms of special abilities now that it was rooted (I downloaded Titanium Backup and ran it, that was it), and then, might I add, unrooted before updating to GB, again negating your claim. The issue with my phone is the same issue I experienced before GB was even officially announce for the Atrix. Do I have a defective unit? Perhaps. Is the source of my problems "root"? No, not even in the least.

Thanks for your thought.

Jonneh, you said you didn't root but you did. Perhaps because you rooted you are having the problems you are whining about. Of course if you can prove that you are not having problems because you performed unauthorized changes to your phone's operating system then please do so. But odds are since so many people are very happy with the upgrade and so few average users root their phone the problems you have are related to rooting. Why don't you call Motorola and tell them you rooted your phone (for only one day) and now the upgrade isn't working to your satisfaction. I would love to hear that conversation. Oh, and unless you are six how about leaving the silly name calling on the playground.

lmao tohio, did you even finish reading my reply? "Perhaps because you rooted you are having the problems you are whining about" - apparently you didn't read it? I'm sorry man, but I can't help you if you won't even read. My above post already explains it to you. Like I said, I understand why someone might think that, which is why I filled you in on all the missing information. With that information now presented to you, you're ignoring it and just repeating yourself. What's up?

"You performed unauthorized changes to your OS" - please inform me where I've done that. Again, if you had read, I explained I ran Titanium Backup. Are you maybe a little ignorant as to what "root" is and what it does, or what Titanium Backup does? I'm not trying to be mean here, seriously, just asking. I didn't load any custom ROM, I didn't alter any part of the OS whatsoever. I ran TB lol. The fact that I'm arguing about this to you is kind of getting silly now. being rooted does not = altering the OS. It gives you the ABILITY to alter it if you so choose. Sorry pal, I didn't choose. :-P

Oh, and silly name calling? I apologize. Your post was not polite like this one I'm replying to, it was rather snotty and rude. Now that you've taken the high road since it's gotten heated up and you don't want the mods to get involved, I will do the same.

I'm sorry, but the fact is you thought you knew something, which was understandable since you didn't have all the information, and it was wrong. Now you've been presented with all the info and you're still pursuing your point. Like I said, I can't help you if you won't help yourself. I'll just end our conversation here. Didn't mean to hijack a thread like this or cause some big scene, so I apologize for that.

Once you've negated all that useless intrusion, your next best move is to get QuickPic, from the Market. It is utterly superior to the stock Gallery App in every way. Dev support is first rate, and he's constantly improving the app. You can organize your pics in any way you like; just full of great functions you cannot have with the stock Gallery app. Make QuickPic your go-to Gallery and you'll never look back!

I am kind of glad they made the gallery suck so bad otherwise I would have never found QuickPic, it is perfect, I put it on my Atrix and my Xoom.

I must have downloaded a different update. Am loving the Atrix with Gingerbread. Runs as smooth as silk and its too bad the phone was not launched with GB on it. Some of the nit picking in this thread is just personal taste. Things you can change in android. Good luck with your phones and I hope you get your issues worked out.

lol! No, same update. :-) I don't want to leave people with the wrong idea though. I loved GB on the Atrix. The animations, the new notification panel's transparency, the new colors, the way it highlights when you scroll all the way to top or bottom in an app like handcent now, not to mention switching orientations between landscape and portrait worked so much better now. I really liked GB - the only issue I had was lag when flipping between homescreens, which I (mostly) fixed by removing the offending widgets. For some reason the stock photo widget that came with the phone didn't like GB but had no problem with Froyo. I'd be curious to see if any other users make use of that widget while on this GB update.

I, too, think the atrix should've launched with GB, definitely! I just have issues with the atrix phone itself really. I've had more problems with the atrix than I've had with my blackberry Bold 9000 (unless you count that trackball sticking lol). I really think I'm done with moto for my next phone, honestly.

I can't get signal :( My phone keeps losing all signal randomly.
If I return phone, can I get iPhone 4?

If you are still in your 30-day buyer's remorse period, yeah, you can return the Atrix.

Then go to another ATT store, and get a different phone.

for some reason my facebook contacts are no longer syncing. not all of the pictures appear- and i can no longer add a phone number to a facebook contact- in the past with froyo i could

it is annoying because im trying to re-link some contacts- and they arent even showing up!

Jonneh, I read your post. Now you are dissembling. You said in a post that you rooted your phone for one day, I didn't. If you think rooting doesn't change the operating system then you have a lot to learn about software and operating systems. If you didn't root your phone why did you say you did? You know you did and now you are stuck. BTW I never called you any names so I don't need to take the high road since I never left it. Have you called Motorola yet to report your formerly rooted now unsatisfactory phone?
