What does "4G-Like" mean?

LTE is no joke. Don't know if the phones will see these speeds though. From what I understand vzw is looking at pricing by speed as well as Volume. So you could pay one rate for up to 10 Mbps, a higher rate up to 15, and max for unlimited.

And yes, they can govern your speed.

Will the Xoom see those speeds?

I don't know. As I understand it the notebook cards are capable of better speeds that the modems/radios that would be in a Tablet or phone. So I assume the xoom will be in the same policy as the phones. If they leave it unlimited initially that will be great. But when they do go tiered it may be by speed ad well as volume which could be good. Like unlimited data but only up to 12 Mbps would be awesome. Considering that on EVDO you get like 1-2 Mbps (I think).

To clear the air about ALL cell service by ANY carrier that is branded "4G" or "LTE"... It's really only 3.5G. None of the carriers "4G" or "4G-like" technology actually meets 4G standards. I laugh at the T-Mobile commercials because they just did a little upgrade to their network which is barely 3.5G. Verizon's LTE may be faster, but like others will say, we won't see AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile with true 4G networks until approx. 2013 when everything is built out considerably.
