My first smartphone is Samsung S4. I have never used apple products before.

I am wondering and curious what does itunes do? I heard that transferring files from PC to iphone or iphone to PC need to go through itunes and sometimes the format is not compatible or something?

Iphone cannot just connect the usb cable to access/transfer/copy the iphone data files/images/music via PC?

What is the equivalent of itunes in android?

Im not 100% sure as im a new 2 week android user, but I was a 6 year iphone user. I think Kies is the equivalent to iTunes, but I think that is just a samsung thing. And no you cannot just use windows explorer to transfer files to an iPhone due to apple being so tight on everything that you do with your phone. I think there are certain programs that can access your iPhone's storage and transfer music though.

So if you want to transfer an image/song, you will need to transfer it to itunes, then you go into itunes and transfer to iphone/PC? I am assuming itunes is a website that you can store data?

If you want to view an image (that is on your iphone) on the PC, can you access your phone from the PC to click on the image? (I am assuming that you plugin the USB cable from PC to Iphone and you could access Iphone storage)

iTunes is a program downloaded from apple's website. Pictures can be transferred and viewed through windows explorer or os xs image capture. Music for the most part has to go through iTunes. iCloud is a service provided by Apple that can store your data.

So transferring music is the only thing that needs to go through itunes?

Can you transfer a video file from PC to iphone or vice versa without itunes?

Unless you're jailbroken, iTunes is your portal to move music, pictures, videos, etc, to and from your iPhone.

Why does people want to use Iphone? It just seems so troublesome that everything needs iTunes.

Android seems much easier to just plug in a usb cable and access/move files.

Just depends on what floats whoever's boat.

So much incorrect info in this thread. iTunes is not the only way to import files to an iPhone. There are a lot of apps in the AppStore that can transfer files to an iPhone with just a web browser. Just enter the IP address of your iPhone in the computers web browser and drag and drop files into your iPhone. You don't even need to connect with USB. It can be done on WiFi. I haven't used iTunes in years.

you dont want to know what itunes do, believe me! itunes is the worst piece of software i have ever seen, it is weird,it is bad, it is dangerous. i am telling you this as mobile developer :)
