What does swiping left on a download do

There was this particular download from google chrome that i wanted to cancel. However, when i presses the cancel button there was no response. After trying multiple times, I accidentally swiped away the download and my phone has been using up battery really fast. So what i want to know is when i swiped away the download notification, did it cancel the download or is it still there.

Welcome to the forums. Swiping the notification only dismisses it and it doesn't affect the file that was downloaded. What was this file that you downloaded? Search for it in your download folder or use the Download manager.

Can you see that download if you open a new page in Chrome? You can also try Chrome - three dots top right - downloads.
