Re: what dies this mean

Are they stored on a memory card? If so looks like it malfunctioned

Re: what dies this mean

This means the files are corrupt. Time to change your memory card if they were stored on a memory card. What brand is your SD Card?

I hope you were backing your photos up to Dropbox or something similar.

How old was your failed micro SD card? According to Samsung all micro SD cards should be replaced after 3 years as they claim that is the usable life span. I use and have used ScanDisk, Samsung, and Lexar micro SD cards and all have worked perfectly for at least 3 years. The only 2 that have failed were well over 3 years old.
I am currently using a Lexar 128GB microSD card in my Note 4 due to the fact that is several orders of magnitude faster than the Samsung 128GB cards. A real plus with video taking.
Your mileage may vary.

I bet you have a sandisk memory card class mine did the same thing if it is a sandisk one they will replace it for free like they did mine it takes roughly 2 weeks after you first contact them about and telling them the issue

I switched it out and put it in my Surface Pro 3 and it works and reads fine. The picture I took is the only thing that won't show up. Everything before and after those pictures with

That's a very good SD Card

You know... I'm not so sure if it is or not. I bought my Sandisk 128gb, their most expensive one, in September, and it's flaking on me already... I just bought the Samsung Evo 128, and I'll see if I get better life out of it.
