What Happened to "DROID" on Reboot?

My Maxx used to say DROID when it rebooted. Now it doesn't. Did I turn it off? Did it go away with 12.15.15? I kinda miss it :-)

Check to make sure your volume isn't muted before reboot. If it is, the droid sound won't play.

It stands to reason that muted volume prior to the reboot would suppress the voice. Nope, not muted, checked that earlier.

Funny how people are. You miss the sound and I can't wait to get rid of it!

The sound file is system/media/droidpu.ogg.

If you're rooted, you can boot with write access & change the name to droidpu.ogg.bak.

As I recall the same thing happened going from Eclaire to Froyo on my Droid Incredible. It was there when I purchased it, but gone after the update to Froyo. Maybe they figure people get sick of it & remove it on the first major update. Who knows. I actually didn't mind it this time around, probably since I don't reboot this one as much. With my DI I powered it down every night to charge. With the Maxx I leave it run for 2 days & 1 night and leave it on when I charge, & reboot it about once a week.

P.S. I think I just solved it. I decided to reboot my phone. When the first popup screen comes up, it shows power down, airplane mode, & below it 3 icons. One is a speaker with a line thru it, the next an icon for vibrate, and third a speaker with no line through it. I pressed the speaker with no line through it, then power down, & ok. When I booted it up, the Droid sound was back, so I think they're giving the user the option of sound on boot up. Either way it's about 1/5 the volume of the Droid boot sound on my old Incredible. That was loud when it was on!

Great idea - but inspecting and changing that didn't make a difference here. I'm using Motorola Assist and thought perhaps it turns off the speaker so I disabled Assist but no change.

LOL - only here would there be a discussion of how to get your DROID back!

That's just the quick way to turn the speaker off, vibrate only, and on. If you press one of them you'll see the icon change in the status bar. You can then press back or home and continue with the sound option you want. I believe those have always been there, though they really should be on the notification shade setting toggles screen IMHO.

My wife's Droid Mini has the 12.15.15 update and still says DROID while rebooting. So it's probably a setting I can't find.

Maybe, but my phone's volume it as set to full and when I got the popup when powering down, it showed the speaker with the line through it highlighted. And before this I didn't have the Droid sound on reboot after the camera update, so that's my only explanation.

Also, there really isn't a need for volume control in the notification shade, when there are volume buttons on the side. Holding the volume down button will get you to the same place with only maybe a second of difference.

I like having both. Buttons break. (Vol Up is broken on my old Droid 3, for example.)

My Maxx still says DROID on startup even after the recent camera/bug fix update.
