What will happen if I do the clearing data of my Google Service Framework?

So let's say... hypothetically... someone did clear the cache and data... hypothetically... on Google Services Framework, because they were impatiently trying to wait for/force the OTA to Android 5.1...hypothetically ;-)

Since then, they're not receiving notifications from Gmail. What might they try doing to get things back to normal?

I have an ummm friend... who would like to know
