What have you replaced Messenger with for SMS/MMS on the Nexus 6P?

Hangouts...

I use Google Voice as my primary number and Hangouts is a great way to consolidate my SMS/Messaging experience...

Hangouts with Google Voice... I really don't see why I would use anything else... Messenger seems like a dino to me.

Textra. It has great customization options for notifications and a clean interface. Been using it for a couple of years on several phones and love it.

why not just use Hangouts for everything?

Agreed. I use it for everything, too. That said I do understand there are some benefits to both Messenger and Hangouts over the other and I find it frustrating that Google just doesn't go all in with one or the other. That and Messenger is a system app to I have to freeze it and/or uninstall with root (which I always have). Why can't I send a video in Hangouts?! That's all it needs!

Material Messaging, customizable and very responsive with updates.

Major changes in the last few weeks where I almost left the app due to some bugs I was having, but all fixed now.

I have been having a problem with Google Messenger since i got a new OnePlus 2. When I send a new message (start a new conversation), the recipient's response starts as a new message (conversation). Anyone else seeing something like this?

Same here. Google needs to make that happen

Maybe I'm not understanding quick reply in Messenger, but in Hangouts if my phone locked (or just screen off w/ smart lock) I can reply from the lock screen with a double tap of the message and if my phone is on I can double tap to replay from the pop up or notification shade. You mean quick reply with preset responses?

Textra. I've tried multiple (messenger, hangouts, handcent) and textra is best. Has trial period then $1.99 or something like that. Worth every penny.

Unfortunately I use messenger solely because it works well texting to iPhone users. And my entire family is an iPhone family except me.

Viva Le Revolution!

Quick reply meaning when you tap the notification, there's a popup that appears for you to reply from, without leaving the current app or activity.

Currently using messenger until Google figures out the compression problem when sending pics in Hangouts.

No I mean I can reply from the notifications shade without leaving the application I'm in

Used to use Hello SMS, but switched to Textra several months back. Really no complaints with either, I just liked Textra's customization features a bit more. Both are solid apps.

I hadn't heard of any compression problems in Hangouts. Is there a thread on this?
