What have you replaced Messenger with for SMS/MMS on the Nexus 6P?

Huge textra fan. It's slick looking in a minimalist way and offers my deal breaker feature, dark mode or equivalent.

If hangouts allowed a dark mode I'd switch since it's a better fit for me from a project fi stance.

The billion dollar question. I'm a nut. I like to flash roms and try different apps and I can't control my addiction. Part of the Android fun for me.
As I said previously, textra and chomp are great and now I just paid for awsms. You should see me with Twitter and calendar apps. Lmao

To each his own! All people with ADD are android fans but not all Android fans have ADD! LMAO!

There's nothing wrong with it, but I wish Hangouts was a lot more seamless and we didn't need messenger.

I love the idea of Google chat, Hangouts, and SMS all in one, but the reliability on the N5 was horrible.

I like chomp sms as well as textra. Same company, chomp is more customizable.

I use Verizon Messages. Although their recent update has broken MMS capabilities. So I've rolled back to a previous version. You can find the apk online for version 6.02. It's the only VZW app I use (and only available to verizon customers) but it offers everything I need. ....especially the ability to text over wifi. I used to use Hangouts but the 6P is not allowing me to change custom ringtones with hangouts. Meaning...I can change it, but it doesn't play the sound.

+1 I throw up a little in the back of my mouth propping anything Verizon, but this app is pretty good. Sync's on wifi across platforms, including wifi calling in the Android/iOS apps, plus there are Windows & OSX desktop apps (no calling) and MyVerizon web portal access.

I just switched to Signal in the vain hope it might become a defacto SMS and Messenging app. I dream of the day you can use Whatsapp as a SMS client and I can have all my messages in one spot.

Disa Messenger is what you need.

I only use Textra because it has the ability of black listing numbers so you won't get SMS spam from them

Compose your text, then set it to send any time in the future you choose....

I like it but wish it had the features of say textra. I like scheduling texts etc.. The stock messenger is clean and I don't mind it though

Currently using Hangouts for a Project Fi number and a secondary Google Voice number and had a question...

If I set Messeger as the default SMS app, that means I'll no longer be able to get messages (SMS/MMS/group messages?) sent to my GV number? The GV number will only get IMs from other Hangouts users, nothing else? I'm a bit confused by that...
