What incentive does Verizon have to release the GNex?

Verizon makes money on subscribers, that's their incentive. People pay roughly $90 a month or so for service. 45,087 people +1'd google.com/nexus. Assuming 20,000 of those are US users that plan to buy it, or renew their contract for it, that's 1.8 million $ per month not including however much money they make on he sale of the phone itself.

Sound like a pretty good incentive to me.

1.8 million is nothing for verizon who brings in billions.....

Sure theres incentive... Just in this house there are 3 VZ smartphones waiting for the upgrade to a Nexus on their network. The longer they wait, the more intrigued i am in the Galaxy S3. If that phone next year will be on VZ's network, who knows. But if i need to wait till later in December (not trying to start rumors mind you) or heaven forbid any other issues arise, January i may not upgrade any devices here at all. They are runing alright for the time being and can wait for the tax money in mid Feb since christmas appears to be sucking my Nexus cash very quickly...

The real frustrating thing about Verizon is waiting for the next phone model doesn't work. I guess it's okay if you're buy iPhonee, but some models never make it to Verizon. The GS2 is one of the best phones on the planet but Verizon doesn't sell it. It's maddening.

I think the reason verizon passed on the sgs2 was because at the time they were unable to get lte into the device and have it out before the razr and all that. They do not want to kill their droid line sales so seeing how the at&t lte sgs2 just came out a few weeks ago maybe verizon knew that and said screw it we want more for out droid line even though they could have bloated up the sgs2.

Well Verizon has me right now ready to sign a 2 year agreement... BUT THAT IS ONLY IF I GET THE DOUBLE THE DATA DEAL.. I really hope they don't do something stupid like take that away and then launch the nexus... They really need to put this phone out, they missed a great opportunity with black friday!
I am assuming that you are not on Verizon at the moment? If you are, you can get the double data deal with the phone you have now. If you are on another carrier, you may have other options like waiting for the Nexus to be released on your network.

What VZW is doing with the GN is not unusual. They are being smart in terms of marketing cycles. They don't want a glut of phones hitting at the same time.

Personally, I don't mind waiting (even though my Eris is a colossal pos) because I'd rather the bugs be worked out prior to release. Let the Brits break it in for us. We'll get a better product as a result.

Also, I am the only person I know who has even heard of the GN. Out of my 200 FB friends not a single one of them understands why I just don't get a Razr or iPhone. It's not because they are stupid it's because they are just normal smart phone users.

Any corporations will clamor over itself to make even a slightly higher bottom line, every new customer they get improves it

Yes but most of those are already paying verizon so all that wouldn't be new customers and they would already be making that money.

It's this interesting material called money. They say it serves as a placeholder for everything valuable on earth, and that Verizon cannot live without it.

Make no mistake- they will release the nexus. They cannot go without an answer to the hoarde of GSII makes coming out of AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile without giving off something with a real super amoled display. Most customers may be sheep, but it doesn't take a genius to say what screen looks better, the GSIIs or a RAZRs. We will get our nexus, it's just a question of when.

I've been to stores and heard from real live people off of the internet that the Razr and Rezound simply aren't selling... at all. Verizon's incentive to sell the GNex is to make some profit this holiday season and maintain the massive flood of off contract OGD users.

They're flying off the shelves in my town. I had to reserve it at a specific store and wait a day before i could get my hands on one

Because they don't actually hav exclusivity. The people that drool over the nexus are the same people that are just crazy enough to import an $800 phone from Europe and switch to their largest competitor.

I used to work for VZW and they have no idea what their customers want or think. Obviously things aren't changing.

There are so many threads to choose from to post my comment... I'll just choose this one.

So, at the google.com/nexus site is listed the LTE version. Fine. There are numerous threads (and all over teh internetz) about Verizon making an announcement.

What I find curious is to the more uninitiated, they could stumble upon the site and see the specs. Since there is no announcement, a potential consumer would be puzzled on how to purchase the friggin' phone. I've said this in other threads (and have others) that Verizon erred by not announcing a date.

I understand they have "too many choices" (RAZR, Rezound) for consumers right now, so I chalk it up to poor schedule planning on their part.

It's my understanding Verizon has a really cozy relationship with Moto, so they'll probably get preference. I think they have the next best relationship with HTC for Android. In my opinion, next comes Samsung. So who gets least advantageous positioning? Samsung.

I imagine Google must also be frustrated, but carriers have the power (excepting Apple, of course). I'm sure Google (and Samsung) -wishes- they had Apple's clout to dictate terms with Verizon, but alas...

The point is, consumers want simplicity. Presenting a product deserves a release date, so the consumer can link their viewing of the announcement to their purchase. Barring that, some consumers will move on. With CES around the corner, I suspect some will just wait, to Verizon's detriment.

In the end, I'm just venting. I'll be patient just like everyone else and get the phone anyway. I just don't think Verizon is demonstrating particular competence in relation to Google's page.

Good times.

The reason they don't know about it is because they haven't seen a commercial for it.

Just thinking out of the box here. What incentive does Verizon have to release the GNex? They have the Resound and Razr out now and they both seem to be selling fairly well.

I would expect Verizon to bring out the GNex only when those two start to decline in sales... So when do you think THAT will happen - 2 to 3 weeks? January???

1. Android as an operating system currently has the most market share.
2. Ice Cream Sandwich is/will be the best Android operating system to date.
3. Samsung currently sells more smartphones than any other manufacturer.
4. Verizon wireless, on average, has the best network (voice and data)-reasonable people can disagree but I bet Verizon thinks so.

I am assuming you agree with all 4 of these statements. Now, ask yourself:

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU NOT WANT TO RELEASE IT AND/OR NOT MARKET IT?

Any attempt to do otherwise is poor business management. Plain and simple.

scanning this thread, a reason I didn't see mentioned:
they have invested money into R&D of this device, and it isn't cheap. They've also probably paid a lot of money to be the only carrier in the US to officially have it, at least at first. so, how about a return on the investment? seems reason enough.

The reason they don't know about it is because they haven't seen a commercial for it.

Exactly. They don't care enough to go out of their way to even research such things. They go to their carrier's website or store and choose from what's already available.

But now I can't remember what my main point was or if I even had one.

You were saying that it's basically a device for junkies like us rather than the masses. I disagree because if they release and market it, all 200 of your facebook friends would want one
