What incentive does Verizon have to release the GNex?

Just thinking out of the box here. What incentive does Verizon have to release the GNex? They have the Resound and Razr out now and they both seem to be selling fairly well.

I would expect Verizon to bring out the GNex only when those two start to decline in sales... So when do you think THAT will happen - 2 to 3 weeks? January???

I've been to stores and heard from real live people off of the internet that the Razr and Rezound simply aren't selling... at all. Verizon's incentive to sell the GNex is to make some profit this holiday season and maintain the massive flood of off contract OGD users.

We keep hearing that that Rezound/Razr aren't selling, but I haven't seen any numbers. However, it would makes sense to hold off on the GN until Verizon moves enough units. The biggest shopping weekend of the year is this weekend. It's no accident the phone isn't for sale or pre-order.

Carbonbased573 touches on something as well. Verizon knows there are a lot of people who have OG Droids who are eligible for upgrades. This is all about getting people on phones with bloat in hopes they'll buy services from Verizon.

Don't know what the Razr sells like in my area but I had to hit 3 retailers before I tracked a Rezound down for a rental the other night. I'd say it is selling better than I ever expected. No doubt the GN will sell strong numbers early but it's unlikely to be their breadwinner for Q4. It's a niche demographic, but who knows, stranger things have happened.

Well the LG Nitro is being announced on the 1st of December so if Verizon is waiting for a lull to release the Nexus...MAJOR FAIL

VZ got the Bionic, supposed to be the beat all to end all. Then the Razr, then the Rezound, now the GN. All high end, each supposedly better than the next.

Sheesh, talk about fragmentation. The Google Androids are so dispersed and released so fast there's no time to even try to keep up.

Giving people choices is wonderful, but this is getting ridiculous.

Incentive? Thousands of non Verizon customers that will start contracts with them. I'm one for example, I only have a work provided phone. Many people are switching from other providers. Seems like enough reason to release the phone right there. Double whammy stealing other networks customers.

Then there is the marketing just to get people in the store. Which most will leave with some sort of phone and tons of accessories.

Then once the phones are bought and you break yours out in a crowded place a lot of people will wonder what it is and where you got it....free advertising....

The LG is an at&t phone, but wouldn't it be smart for verizon to compete with the?

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

Their probably waiting for that. So when at&t releases their lte phones. Verizon can then release gnex and brag how it has the first ice cream sandwich system etc. Makes people think twice before buying the at&t lte phones since Verizon would have the newest android.

The incentives are there and they are quite simple:

1) Lure the Nexus niche crowd onto the VZW network with 2-year contracts.
2) Sign up other customers into new 2-year contracts.
3) Enjoy the revenue from the data plans.
4) Move some of its customer base off the 3G network and onto its 4G network.
5) And, shockingly, move product that they have already paid for.

While there are many conspiracy theories at play, it really seems to be a far simpler set of circumstances.

1) The launch was disjointed in that it was a Google event attended by Samsung. VZW's non-involvement was because the device was not going to be a VZW exclusive. Additionally, Samsung can only declare when the device is available to the carriers. It is up to the carriers to decide when to release.
2) The device has to be tested and verified to be (generally) bug free and to operate properly on the carrier's system. VZW testing may not have begin until after the device's announcement in October.
3) Bugs that are big enough to warrant concern of customer dissatisfaction were discovered by VZW to delay their intended launch date. Additionally, it is in VZW's best interest not to release a device that may experience higher than expected returns due to glitches/bugs/poor performance.
4) Instead of looking like buffoons for announcing a launch date before they knew they could launch it, VZW has been quiet about it. The intent here being to not say a date, then move that date (multiple times?). That would only serve to appear to be a huge public fiasco. Being quiet about it keeps it as an internal fiasco.

In the end, we are all simply very anxious for what we know is on the way. But in VZW's defense, they have been quiet about it for the greater good. At least they haven't gone back on their word (by pushing back publicly declared release dates) and are trying to deliver a quality product to their customers. It is the consumers' fault here for digging up any and all rumors or internal nuggets of info and taking them as gospel. Of course, I'm just as eager and impatient for this thing as the next person, so I, too, am guilty of participating in the online mob.

My wife simply wishes they would release the device because she's tired of me pleasuring myself to all the unboxing and review videos on YouTube (its like Gnex porn).

actually it is looking like the revolution 2 will also be announced at that event.(same specs as at&t just on verizon)

Verizon makes money on subscribers, that's their incentive. People pay roughly $90 a month or so for service. 45,087 people +1'd google.com/nexus. Assuming 20,000 of those are US users that plan to buy it, or renew their contract for it, that's 1.8 million $ per month not including however much money they make on he sale of the phone itself.

Sound like a pretty good incentive to me.

Well Verizon has me right now ready to sign a 2 year agreement... BUT THAT IS ONLY IF I GET THE DOUBLE THE DATA DEAL.. I really hope they don't do something stupid like take that away and then launch the nexus... They really need to put this phone out, they missed a great opportunity with black friday!

i don't really blame them for not launching on Black Friday. I for one to not want to battle those ridiculous crowds and traffic that day. I'll gladly wait till the first or second week of December.

P3Droid on Twitter: "...Just wait it will show up as a stocking stuffer", meaning...the G-Nex will be released before Christmas. He's stated this a few times in the past few days. He also said he does not see December 8th being the release date. don't kill the messenger...believe what you want ;)

but, looks like the release date will be some time between December 8th and December 25th.

If i'm taking a guess...i'd say it's going to release on December 15th.
