What is everyone looking forward to most for phones in 2022?

... When you tell family and friends that Samsung's Z Flip3 isn't worth it and useless once you get over the Flip part. It's hard to get excited about what's coming out...
This is what's sad about being an addict.

Well all along I've heard that people interested in the Fold and Flip should be purely interested for the gimmicky design more than it being a flagship among devices. This was something I heard in review after review. They are probably a few generations away from them being something to actually compete with S series and former Note series devices. They just have that cool factor, look what my phone can do. I'm not surprised that one would bore of them. I've heard good things about the Pixels though. Especially the Pro model. Isn't that the one with the extra camera features? Plus everyone who's all about the latest and newest loves that they get the newest Android so much sooner than everyone else.

Having owned 90% of flagships I don't even know what to look forward to.

I can't believe I sold it for the Pixel 6 Pro, which I only had for 2 weeks and already looking forward to Samsung's Galaxy S22 Ultra.

This is what's sad about being an addict.

I too am anticipating the S22 Ultra.

What am I looking forward to, more manufacturers banning Facebook. Personally would like to see the platform die. Oh and Twitter and IG would be a plus plus too.

As for things that are doable, I'm thinking along the lines of mrsmumbles. Not so much the selective wipe but more of a complete backup. Similar to what is possible with rooted devices. I mean when you backup your PC you're not selectively backing up all the stuff you can easily get back, you're backing up the things that are near impossible to replace. The things that if lost would be totally devastating if lost forever. Not sure why this isn't a thing on Android.

Bought my first unlocked phone two weeks ago. Was great to delete the Facebook app from my phone. Tired of having to in the past disable FB. I don't know how it operates now, but in the past the FB app was almost a virus the way it wanted to infest so many other apps.

Unfortunately I'm forced to use it for some things. I typically use it via the mobile browser site, but many group/page admin duties have to be carried out either in the FB app or their business pages app.

Another phone I'm hoping for would be an Asus ROG phone that works natively on Verizon.

I agree. I can plainly remember people posting about issues from sending/receiving SMS to apps freezing to devices getting stuck in bootloops which required people to clear the cache and/or data from FB and IG. Let's not forget how it shortened battery life running all of the time. Did I say all of the time, I meant every second of everyday. Another thing that sucks in current days is similar to what Mooncatt is talking about, where apps want you to sign-in with your FB account or limiting function if you don't use the platform to create or sign-in with a FB account. It pretty much has become a virus because it wants to invade every aspect of one's life as everything expects you to use or have it. Why, so they can u$e and reu$e your data? Truly can't say Google is much different in that aspect. At least with Google you by-pass the divisive fake lives, fake friends and online drama machine that is FB.

...But what about 2022? What is everyone looking forward to most from Android phones, Android, or smartphones in general?...

I am looking forward to seeing what happens with whatever might come out of OM in 2022. Lots of discussion about it over on CB, with OM basically saying that they aren't yet dead and are still planning to "ship" something, but many debating the level of confidence.

Also wondering about west might happen with the Unihertz Clock phone, and if Unihertz comes up in 2022 with any other plans for another PKB.

The Astro Slide 5G also looks interesting.

In terms of folds/flips, it would be cool if someone came out with a screened keys (or maybe it's referred to as keyed screen) phone. There were some cool concepts of that thrown around (warning, concept renders only).

I agree. Plus the FB app wanted to grab my contacts and interact with my information in other apps. Back when I used FB too me forever it seemed to get the app under control. Future builds of Android gave better control of permissions but by then I was done using FB on my phone. Fall of 2020 ended my complete use of FB.
