What is going on with this Nexus 4 phone?

I ordered a new Nexus 4 from the play store last weekend and it is supposed to be delivered the end of this week. In the mean time, I started looking at a few Nexus and Android forums for advice on apps and I seem to find a rash of complaints about this phone:

Screens that crack by themselves
Bluetooth cuts out
Wifi cuts off
Messages won't push to phone when screen is dark
Screens that creak
Battery issues requiring a complete reset of phone ( recommended by Google)
Customers having to RMA multiple times to get one that works properly
Screen turning off during calls
Random rebooting
Buzzing earpiece

These are complaints I have read on multiple threads in different forums by multiple people. Many times the poster says that they have RMA'd the phone, and received a replacement that has the same problem. I am starting to think that this phone is a Beta product and should never have been placed on sale, and am regretting that fact that I ordered one. It would seem that the failure rate in this phone, for an electronic product, could only be called "epidemic". Am I alone in this thinking?

Forums are OCD.

Well, for what its worth, I received mine yesterday and it is flawless so far. No creaking, messages have been coming and going, battery life has been great so far, no proximity sensor issues.

I really hope this isn't a troll post but I'll give my opinion and facts about mine.

First of all the reason you see so many posts talking bad is because nowhere near as many people go to forums to talk about how great their phone is as opposed to people who have problems. The problems will always be the majority of people making separate threads as opposed to the people who love their phone and post it in a single thread.

I've had the phone since January and I have no complaints at all. It flies. No cracks at all. No WiFi issues. No signal drops. No creaking. Nada. My only (slight) gripe is that I wish it had a slightly better camera.

Don't regret something you haven't used. It's the best phone I've owned thus far. I have had the droid x, thunderbolt, galaxy nexus and now the nexus 4.

The screen quality is fantastic. The processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM makes it absolutely FLY. The call quality is very good and the loud speaker is pretty good. Not to mention this will be the first or second phone running KLP and it gets updates VERY VERY quickly. I hope this gives you an idea of what an exceptional phone this is. Good luck to you and enjoy your new phone.

I've had my Nexus 4 for a while now and I have had zero issues with it. It's my favorite phone so far. I've had the Note, S3, iPhone 4s, and many others. It's way faster than the s3.

What they said... and maybe early build run problems? I know the phone went through some manufacturing tweaks along the way.

I've had mine about 7 weeks and LOVE it. Feels solid, performs great. Put it in a case and don't drop it applies to ANY phone as well as don't squeeze the sides in a death grip. The whole thing (hardware and software) seem quality to me.

Well that has cheered me up a bit, and hopefully the negatives stuff I am reading is just a very small percentage. I will give it a try. I did already order a TPU case and a belt holster for it, since I am very careful with my phones.

Also, I highly recommend using PACman ROM if you decide to go the way of rooting. (I don't know what your experience with android is). Just a thought. Hopefully what I just said isn't prohibited in this forum and if it is, I will gladly remove it.

Screens that crack by themselves Nope.
Bluetooth cuts out Nope. I do it everyday on my car and it streams my music and calls like a boss.
Wifi cuts off Nope.
Messages won't push to phone when screen is dark Nope.
Screens that creak Nope. Rock solid build here.
Battery issues requiring a complete reset of phone ( recommended by Google) What?
Customers having to RMA multiple times to get one that works properly Meh. You get them kind of posts in any phone forum. Doesn't means every N4 gets RMA'ed
Screen turning off during calls Nope.
Random rebooting Had that issue once. My fault for messing with custom roms/kernels though. Never had it while stock.
Buzzing earpiece Yes. I really gotta concentrate to notice it's there though. Not gonna lose sleep over it.

You can go to pretty much any phone forum and find a ton of "problems". I did the same before I got my GS3 and at first was wondering if I made the right choice. It turned out to be a great device but I was dying to try a pure Google device. As far as the N4, I have had it for about a month and it is awesome. They may have had some of the issues you mentioned in the early batches but mind is perfect. Awesome speed, zero lag, love only having one storage point to manage and can't wait to be first to receive software updates:) You won't regret getting it.

Try and find a phone forum that ISNT full of those same complaints.

Oh, they come and brag, it's just that people only brag on Other Phone's forums

only one in a few people get those issue. people who get crack back have butter fingers or dont care for their phone whiping it everywhere. mine was perfect when it came, took care of it, apply both front and back screen and bumper. now not even a dust scratch :D
ear piece is with everyone but some more noticable than others, not a big deal other than that no problem you listed

"Screen turning off during calls"
This problem is due to bad screen protector which cover the phone sensors. not a problem with the phone

Coming from the owner of a second-round Nexus 4...

1. The actual number of cases where the screen cracked outside of phone violence is extremely small, and there's almost always some mitigating circumstance. Don't sweat it.
2. My BT has never failed once it connects. Mine has the odd habit of refusing to turn on sometimes but a reboot fixes that.
3. Wifi is rock solid on mine.
4. Never had a push problem nor heard about this.
5. Nope.
6. Wha? Some complain about battery life, but pretty much everyone complains about phone battery life unless they're packing a Razr Maxx.
7. Every run has a few lemons. The majority who need to RMA get a perfectly fine phone in return.
8. Usually due to a case or screen protector covering up the light sensor. Never seen this myself.
9. Not a single random reboot.
10. Some claim to have this, I thankfully don't (or it's so quiet on mine that I don't hear it, and I've tried).

The random Nexus 4, like any phone, might have the odd bug or QC issue. It either fixes itself, you RMA it, or learn to live with it. Any problems are far from an "epidemic" and it most certainly is not a beta product. Don't let complaints on forums freak you out. As others have said, you can find gripes, screen horror stories, and general FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) on just about any phone forum out there.

Embrace the Nexus.

Do you expect forums to be riddled with posts from people talking about how good their phone is? No.

FWIW, my N4 functions perfectly.

I've had iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and Galaxy S3. All have been great devices. But I enjoy the Nexus 4 most of all. My son's Nexus 4 did get the continuous red light of death, but he quickly got a replacement from Google. He's still enjoying his Nexus 4 with no regrets.
