What is it about the Note?

Re: what is it about the Note?

I never wanted or liked Samsung phones. I got the Droid Turbo when it came out but hated many things about it and reluctantly traded it in for a Note 4. I was hooked pretty instantly. My 4 stared having battery issues about a year in and insurance sent me a Note 5.

Now I'm ready for an upgrade and I see note 8 on the horizon. Honest tho at this point I'd really like to try something else but until another manufacturer has a comparable stylus experience I'm sticking with the Note line.

TBH I hate the aspect ratio, curved screen and price.

Re: what is it about the Note?

I think the curved screen technology has hampered text input IMO. Between that and the narrow display, I've never made as many typing errors as I've had on my S8.
My Note 4, on the other hand, is still smoothly as silk for typing.

Re: what is it about the Note?

the phrase 'the note is not an s series with a stylus' is interesting to me as now with s8 plus, the note design isn't going to be that different, apart from the dual cameras. so I wonder (apart from the s pen) whether the difference is still so great

Yup. I agree. IMO there was greater separation in the devices years ago. Lately though, The S plus line and the Note line are awfully similar. If you take away the SPEN, the recent lines offer very very similar experiences.

I think the folks who love the Notes don't like this thinking, so you may not hear too many admit it or believe it, but IMO the Notes and the S plus line have grown VERY similar recently and there is not much difference at all outside of the SPEN.

Of course I've owned the Note 4,5, and 7 and loved them. But I have to admit Samsung is shrinking the differentiation between the series with each year. They have a (good) consistent hardware design scheme IMO that permeates both lines. But outside of that, I doubt there will be many significant features missing in a S plus phone that are present in the Notes. Some, I am sure, but not so many. YMMV of course depending on what you value ..

Re: what is it about the Note?

MAJOR differences in speed and operation---Notes have that huge advantage over S series :)

Re: what is it about the Note?

It is the ONLY phone with a real stylus, and it comes with a bunch of software enhancements for said stylus. No phone can match the user experience if you enjoy the stylus.

Then it's your typical flag ship better than most phones just like the Galaxy S.

Because the SPen is more than just another stylus. Saying the SPen is just a stylus is like saying there's no difference between a crayon and a calligraphy pen.

Probably because the Note usually is the phone where Samsung packs everything including the kitchen sink. The S-line phone packs in everything but the kitchen sink.

Still, you have to wonder whether the Note would make much sense moving on. Since the Note 5, they’ve grown more and more similar to the S-line phone of the same year.
