what is the amp reqired to charge a galaxy s4 via usb

I have attached a mini USB outlet to the battery of my BMW motorbike. It works fine charging any apple product (iphone, ipad) but works intermitently when charging the s4.

The output of the usb is 5v dc . 2.1amp

That sounds more like a bad connection, or perhaps a damaged USB port connector on the S4.

Try different cables. All cables do not work with all phones or all charger ports. The 2.1 rating should be sufficient to charge your phone!
