I want to buy a case for my phone and i found one on amazon but i couldn't make out from the description the drop protection height. Do the clear Silicone gel case covers protect phones from drop protection ? or do i need to buy heavy duty rugged ones ?

I read silicone gel cases protect from minial drops but it doesnt say anywhere what how high is minimal such from 6ft or from a table, etc. ?

I am looking for phone cases that will protect from a 6ft drop in case im on the phone and it slips out of my hand. The phone I have a is a Sony Xperia (theres only a limited range of cases for this type of phonr).

Do you know the drop protection height for these cases ?

Not much. They're really only good for scratch protection. That's why they don't state any drop distances.... because they don't have any. Unfortunately the only way to get the 6 foot drop protection you're looking for is from a thicker, bulkier, more expensive higher quality case. But protecting your investment is worth it ;)

I had a phone, in a silicone case, sitting on a wireless charger, I caught the cable to the charger as I turned and lobbed the phone to the opposite wall. I was sure that the phone was gone and that I'd be replacing some sheet rock. Nope - not a mark, on the wall or the phone. But I wouldn't drop one 2 feet "just to see".

@J Dubbs:
You're thinking of screen protectors, not cases.

I'd say that silicone or TPU cases can decrease the risk of major damage from a drop, but I don't think there's any way of guaranteeing it will protect the device at a certain height. The case itself will absorb some of the shock of impact, so that would help, but there are other factors involved, like at what angle the device lands (e.g., right on the corner, which would concentrate the impact force and therefore increase the risk of severe damage, vs flat on the back, which would disperse the force of impact a little more evenly). The bigger bulkier cases (like from Otterbox) will be better, but I can't stand huge cases.
