what is the screen made of?

Assuming the screen is made of the same material as my incredible, I would go naked.

I went without a screen protector on my galaxy S for a long time, but also was very careful to keep it out of the same pocket with my keys. Read some posts on here about how it didn't matter and keys won't hurt it, so I quit caring, within a week I had two scratches on the screen.

Ok..so a screen protector isn't going to save it from a fall. The question is, how scratch resistant is this glass? Is a screen protector going to do anything or is it an overkill?

Honestly, as long as you keep it away from keys or anything else that could scratch it you'll be fine. A lot of people (myself included) get a screen protector for peace of mind.

Hey, I promised I'd get back to you guys when I got the phone:

I tapped on the glass, and it has a slightly lower pitched sound... possibly due to the fact that it is bigger in size. When I look at the reflection of the screen, the glass on the HTC Thunderbolt has a more accurate/optically perfect reflection (if that makes sense). Attempts to scratch the screen with my car keys resulted in the same results as Gorilla Glass. I'm not going to try any more strenuous tests than that, but, for what it's worth, I'm not going to use a screen protector.
