What is this unknown icon in notification screen?

Theres this icon that pops up at random, and i have no idea what it means.

Ive googled my hind off, but still no luck.. help?

Its kinda like a rectangle shape, with a plus sign in the middle.. I wish I could attach a screenshot but im not sure how to..

Welcome to Android Central! That icon usually means that you've gotten so many notifications that there's overflow. It usually occurs when you've updated a ton of apps and haven't cleared the notifications. Do you only see that rectangle with the plus when there are a whole bunch of other app installation notifications filling up the notification bar?

Actually, it just shows up at random, thats why im concerned.

I AM SO SORRY THAT I CANT DO ANYTHING BETTER THAN THIS, Im posting this on my mobile device, and I cant add a screenshot..

It looks like this.

A square with a pointed side on the left, flat side on the right, with a plus sign in the middle..

Next time it comes up, swipe down your Notification Shade, and see if there are a lot of notifications that haven't been dismissed.

I have a similar problem. I can call, use wi-fi etc but there is no mobile data connection. I have a new icon in the task bar that looks like a box (without the spaces and dotted lines below)

I believe I got this after downloading CleanMaster and doing boosts and stuff.

It does sound like you have just received so many notifications that that symbol pops up. Say for sake of argument, the symbol pops up after 7 unread notifications. The reason it may appear and disappear randomly is say you have 3 Facebook notifications. You go into the FB app, and it will clear those 3 notifications, and the box with the + symbol will go away. Easy way to test this is like the others have said, when you see it pull your notification shade down and see what is going on.

Screenshots are typically taken with volume down and power held for a few seconds at the same time.

What phone do you have? Enable Airplane Mode then Disable it and see if your Mobile Data reconnects.

Welcome to Android Central! It'd be really helpful if you could post a screenshot. To do so, press and hold Power and Vol Down at the same time for about half a second. You can then post the image here, although it's easiest if you do so from the AC website on your desktop. I find the most reliable way is to upload the screenshot to Google Drive, then download it on my computer, and then post it.

If you're on the Android Central Forums site on your PC Browser, then first make sure you have the image saved to your computer. The way I usually do it is to upload my screenshot from my device to Google Drive, then on my computer, download that image to the computer's hard drive.

Next, when entering a post, click on the Insert Image button, which is in the editing ribbon right above the text you're typing. It's right under the Smiley, to the right of those globe buttons. It'll prompt you to choose a file, so select your screenshot file. Then it'll be attached to your post!

Looks somewhat like that, but with thinner lines and inside a box. I have a Samsung Galaxy SII, which seems to be in a much better mood today (I have not changed anything) since the problem seems to have disappeared. Still do not know what the Icon means, though. Thanks for your efforts to help me.
