So I rebooted my phone, and when it came back on I had this weird screen. It had the arrow pointing to the power button, so I hit it. All is back up and running now, but was curious as to what this was.

If you reboot holding the power and volume down buttons together, that happens, its called download mode. If you ever need to flash back to stock (if/when you root and flash a custom ROM) you will need to do that. If what I said is complete nerd jargon to you, ignore it, battery pull, and reboot.![]()
^^What he said.. Odin should never ever be used or needed on an open device such as ours![]()
Dang, really?? I sincerely never thought about NOT using Odin to go back to stock. Idk why but ever since back in the day when I had to get way too comfortable with Odin to flash my Captivate back to stock, I have always used it. Any other benefits to using the stock image vs Odinning?? I might be rolling back to stock today![]()

Like I said.. on an open device where the factory images are available you have zero reason to use odin. Fastbooting the stock images via the bootloader is way more reliable and is always doable.
EDIT: If you are unfamiliar with it check the guides in the rooting section. Once you see how simple the bootloader is to use you'll be able to do it blind, lol.![]()
This. I've flashed back to stock ~7 times and it takes maybe 10-15 minutes to flash and reboot. Plus, using the bootloader/fastboot mode interface is a lot more flexible (e.g. flashing radios, bootloaders, etc.).
While ODIN is generally "simple," it's not nearly as useful. This phone is wide open--like all Nexii. Take advantage of that bootloader!
Yeah I'll have to give it a go. I mean I've used to bootloader plenty - updating to the FC04 radios, changing my recovery to non-touch cwm (so that JB would work), etc but I've just never flashed stock images via it. Thanks guys for the info!
