What is your next phone?

I have the M8, and I have zero problems with it. Factory reset once per year and I really have no complaints.

But being a technology guy, I will probably look for a new phone in the next few months. I am on Verizon, and the A9 looks promising but there is no word on Verizon support (CDMA is not supported on the unlocked version).

So assuming the A9 gets Verizon support, is it your next phone, or is something else coming out that you think is better?

Also, if anyone has moved from the M8 to something else that they thought was a huge upgrade, please let me know.

Thanks,
R

I currently have a dead M8 and looking to upgrade. A few months ago I would have been dead set on the M9 because front facing stereo speakers are great, but this is my second M8 with a faulty USB port. That's left a huge bad taste in my mouth, both in terms of HTC's durability and the fact that it's the only way to charge the battery. If it were a removable battery or had a plastic body to allow wireless charging, it wouldn't be as big of an issue.

So now I'm looking to upgrade to the G4. I'm not a fan of the size, but it has a removable, wireless capable battery. I also get to keep sd card support, IPS LCD display, and IR blaster like the M9. I'm sacrificing stereo speakers, but the trade-off is the G4 has the better camera.

And yes, I'm on Verizon too.

I've given up on HTC. I still have my M8, but a few months ago I replaced my wife's M7 with a Samsung. At this point I just want something that works, every time. I'm fighting the temptation to try an iPhone. I've told family members that Android does more, but what the iPhone does, it does better. And, be honest, Apple's upgrades are a hell of a lot simpler than waiting months and months after a new version of Android is released. Yes, I know HTC has promised the M8 will be upgraded by the end of the year. But, even if that's true (I seriously doubt it), it may be June by the time AT&T gets around to it.

I still love my m8, have it since August 2014 and it looks great and is very smooth. I came from a Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 and the lag on those 2 was unbearable compared to this. I tend to get tired quickly but for the first time I don't feel the need to upgrade (yet). Only thing that's worse is battery life, the moment I updated to Lollipop it was never the same. The updated seemed rushed or something.
Do you guys believe Marshmallow update will fix that?

I've enjoyed my M8. I've found a few little buggy things and it doesn't work all of the time with any of my premium bluetooth ear pieces, but the battery life and performance are good. My contract is up May 1, which will give me time to enjoy Marshmallow for a while before I upgrade. The A9 looks great for a mid level phone, and I'm betting they got the camera right finality and from what I've read about the chipset, the battery life should be decent, if not really good. What I'm really excited for is the new flagship, the M10 or HTC 02 as it may be called. They should reveal it in March and available in May. From all the rumors, and leaks, it should be really good, including battery and camera. I don't care if it looks like an iPhone or not. I'm hoping this will be the flag ship that they get everything right. Pretty sure they know their future depends on it, and I think the A9 is a peak into that direction.

Thinking of getting a Nexus 6P. But probably will wait to see what comes out next year. SD 820 should be a beast!

Likely whatever HTC releases next flagship wise. More so waiting on the new SD's and then Ill go from there. Im not a Samsung fan, never been huge fan of UI of LG so kinda leaves me with few choices. Nexus 6p looks pretty nice, but Vanilla Android bores me for the most part. Havent used 6.0 really so unsure how I feel about that version yet.

Well my original plans for the G4 are now on hold at least. So much so that I'm back to considering other devices again, including seeing what the Turbo 2 has to offer, looking into the V10, and a slight chance of switching carriers (believe it or not, Verizon is the best price for my needs right now).

Thanks for the input, guys.

I am considering buying the unlocked A9 for $399 in hopes that it will work well with Verizon. The price is going to skyrocket soon...

I just don't see a device out there that is SO much better than the M8 (when it works - for you guys with faulty ones) - that I should replace my current phone....

Have you guys checked Sense 7 streamlined Marshmallow on the A9? https://youtu.be/Ljltkzq-4Jc
I hope our update is like this, can't wait to get it on my M8! 😊
Do you think it will solve the battery life problems that arose from the (rushed imo) Lollipop update

Make sure you look into Verizon compatibility first. I'm seeing some info about only having LTE bands and no 3G CDMA radios....

I love my M8, and aside from a single stuck pixel, I have no real complaints. But I'm a person that likes shiny new things, and so I'm looking for my next phone. I'm probably not upgrading until April, but I have my eye pretty set on the Nexus 6P. Every review I read makes me want the phone even more.

Stumble upon this thread I did, so I thought I would chime in. I have had my M8 for about a year now, and upgrade time is still 9 months or so away. I would love to stay with the HTC, but the ever changing environment is what is guiding my hand at this point. My fiance has the Galaxy S6, and it does great pictures (something I think the HTC M8 really did poorly and I know they are working on it) and runs well, but the interface is just too flashy and seems like the design quality is more based on getting on the market first, so I'll wait to see what the M10 brings and go from there. I could go into specs, but you all know the drill. I want the expandable memory, solid OS, low-bloat, speed, and reliability. I will not get an iPhone, but I understand those that "walk that way."

"Low bloat" means you should stay away from a Samsung device - they come with all kinds of bloat. Same with any phone purchased through the carrier. With Verizon no longer giving phone subsidies, a Moto X Pure Edition may be what you're looking for. It has the SD slot that the Nexus phones lack, but it runs pure Android, and it works with any carrier. The 16GB version is $399, which is really not a bad deal at all - especially if you already have an SD card or if you pick one up cheaply.

I've been thinking what I want after I give up on my M8, it's a decent phone but when I upgrade I want something different. It seems HTC is the same size and shape year after year, and this camera is is functional but not good. My wife has an S5 and it's nice, I came from an S3. I am really liking the S6 Edge Plus, the Note5, G4 or the Nexus 6P. I feel go big or go home for the next one.

There is always something I don't like on all of these new phones... the V10, the A9, the Droid Turbo 2... it is harder than finding the right woman to marry!

Definitely A Nexus 6P,I've had my fair share of playing with the One M8,its no doubt, a fluid phone, only once or twice, an app crashed on me,other than that, works pretty flawless. The only thing, I wished HTC had done good was the camera due to the constant overexposure of bright lit skies or any other bright source, HDR helps a little but not enough.Still keeping it for now, until i get the chance to get my hands on a 6P. On the other hand, doze does seem promising but so did Project VOLTA on lollipop ... Not saying that it wouldnt work, but I'm saying just maybe.......

Rocking A High Tech C*nt Device!

Deal killers for the 6P (for me):

No wireless charging.
No SD card.
No optical image stabilization.
Big battery but only OK life (and not as fast to charge as other phones).
Speed is only so-so compared to S6, iphone, etc.

I wanted to love her, I really did... :-)

I mainly use my phone to listen to music and that was why I got my m8. However a9 only has one speaker and using gsm arena audio benchmarks seems like some of the new Motorola x phones produce really good sound output...sobsound is a biggie for me but also speed of the launcher... HTC one m8 on kit Kat is blisteringly fast. As soon as it was upgraded to lollipop performance dropped on my phone and battery life too! Be fore I never worried about battery life I used my phone pretty much as much as I wanted. Then after upgrading I became conscious of battery dying on me during the day... So next phone should have optimised marshmallow os...

My thoughts exactly. Do you believe htc and Google are aware of the problems Lollipop brought? I would say it almost broke a perfect phone. Why can't they just fix the things the update ruined and put it back how it was?!
