I have three pairs that I use all the time. My in ear type are Shure SE315c, they sound good and work well in noisy environments. My over the ear closed back phones are Sennheiser HD280 Pros, these sound better than any of the beats headphones and are not expensive. My over the ear open back headphones are AKG K702 these are the reference standard for studio headphones and have the most amazing sound to them. I choose AKG and Sennheiser headphones over any other company any day. The beats headphones are over priced and have a muddy sounding high end, the bose didn't have the clarity on the low end and are expensive. If you want good sounding headphones use what is used in the studio not what you see people using on tv, just my opinion.

An old pair of Sony Walkman Earphones, which came with my CD Walkman.
The sound is an bit off, and is uncomfortable on the left ear, but its usable.

I use a pair of Green Beats by Dre... I love them! They work very well for me, and I enjoy listening to them!

On ear for me

I was just looking at a set of ultrasones today haha

Well after a bit more research I have decided to up my budget to $200 and I have narrowed it down a bit.
I have read good things about the Monster DNA on ear headphones and I have also been recommended the V-Moda M-80 headphones as being one of the best headphones for $200. My priorities for sound quality are fairly simple.
The headphone should sound clear and crisp, be fairly balanced but fun sounding at the same time. While the headphones should be able to isolate some noise and be usable in a airplane but also be comfortable for extended use.
Keeping in mind I will be mainly using the headphones with my Galaxy Nexus(With Power Amp) which set would be better? The Monster DNA or the V-Moda M-80's?

Both are very very good. The m80s are smaller than the DNAs though. I loved the look but I didn't like how they felt on my ears because I have larger ears. The m80s have a little more bass. The DNAs are, to me at least, a little more balanced. The DNAs have a slightly larger earcup on them and are extremely comfortable too. Don't get me wrong the m80s are awesome but for me they were waaaaaay to small

I feel my ears and head are relatively average sized so the m80's should fit me well? Out of the two headphones which ones sound more fun and lively? Did you encounter any issues with using the DNA/or when you had the M80's with the galaxy nexus?

Neither experienced problems with my nexus and I'm rooted and running CM10.1 nightlies. Honestly the DNA is more of a fun headphone for me because it's clearer, I can hear more detail than I could with m80s. The m80s are more bass rich, not saying the DNAs lack bass because they don't, it's just the m80s have more of it. The DNAs really bring out clarity in music, which to me anyways is fun and lively.

Does the bass on the M80's muddy up the rest of the sound or is it tight and controlled? What genres of music do you mainly listen to? I listen to Hip Hop, Pop, Rock, and occasionally dance/country music. I'm wondering if the extra bass would be beneficial to me.

I listen to metal, hip hop, rock, pop, r&b, some jazz/classic stuff, techno/dance/dubstep/house... pretty much anything except country haha. The bass isn't muddy, it's kind of hard to explain. It's just not as refined as the DNA's bass. With some music on the m80's, such as metal or rock, it felt like the bass was overpowering the rest of the music. I'm sure you can tweak this with poweramp though. Either way you're going to be happy, don't buy one and then second guess yourself and think "oh I should have bought the other set" because both sets of great, especially for the price.

Another vote for Shure.

I have an older pair of SCL2's (since late 2008) and they are still going strong. Pricy but well worth it if you enjoy music at reasonable volumes. I use them a lot riding since they isolate wind noise and the volume levels can be kept lower and still stay very clear. In-ear design that are excellent for noise isolating, comfortable and very clear sound with fairly tight bass.

When I have to replace them, I will likely move up to the SE315 without hesitation.

I need help with choosing earphones... I wouldn't want to spend much more than $80, and just want them for casual listening. It doesn't need to have over-pronounced bass, but a well-rounded combination of bass, treble, and mids would be nice. Aesthetics ARE important, but not priority. Also, I have a thing for white headphones. I just like the color.

Ear buds or over/on ear headphones?

Edit: For $80 I recommend these mainly because you're wanting a good balance and these are very good for what you are paying.

ClarityOne? EB 110 In-ear headphones with in-line microphone at Crutchfield.com

Paradigm SHIFT? E2m (Black) In-ear headphones with remote/mic at Crutchfield.com

For over/ on ear headphones I recommend these:

Amazon.com: V-MODA Crossfade LP Over-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphone (White Pearl): Electronics

Amazon.com: Audio-Technica ATH-M50WH Professional Studio Monitor Headphones with Coiled Cable, White: Electronics

Amazon.com: Skullcandy Navigator Headphone w/Mic3 White/Black, One Size: Electronics

It was kinda hard to find some white over/onear headphones in that price range, but those sets are well worth the money and just a little over $100. I personally have the Vmoda's and the audio technica's and can say that those are some really good sets and at that price are a steal. I've heard very nice things about the aviators also

You probably haven't heard better headphones? Why would people pay hundreds of dollars for headphones if a $12 pair sounds the best.
