What makes the phone go into dock mode?

So what does make the phone go into dock mode when you plug it into the multi media dock? Is it just the orientation? a magnet? magic?

I am thinking about building a little something at work to charge my droid but I would like it to go into the dock mode when it is on its stand. I know there is the dock runner app, but I would rather make something (if I can) that the phone will automatically go into dock mode.

I'm pretty sure it's a magnet that does it. However I did have a follow-up questions. There are two docks right? The car dock and the multimedia/desk dock. How does the phone know which dock it's in? Are the magnets located on different areas?

It uses magnets and yes there are different magnet locations for the car and media dock. And there is an app out there that lets you launch the media dock.

Use the app dockrunner from the market it will put your phone in dock mode with out the magnet.

I think the magnet is in the same location just different polarity. There have been lots of threads on this.

Did a search (again) and found the magnet locations, did a quick test with an old blackberry case and it went into both car and media dock Let the fun begin!
