what messaging app do you use with your nexus 6

Google Messenger. It does what it does. No needed extras, customization etc.

Google Messenger and WhatsApp. That's all I need (for now).

Hangouts, which I'm happy to say no longer sucks after the last major update.

Google Messenger the stock messaging app, with hangouts as an alternative when necessary.

For those using Google Messenger, I've seen a couple of weird issues. First, it sometimes doesn't let you zoom in on pictures in portrait mode. If I view the pictures in landscape, then I can zoom. I can't figure out why.

Second, I'm seeing weird contacts behavior. Sometimes it just removes the contact names and all I see are phone numbers. When I check the Contacts app, most contacts are missing as well. Then, randomly, they'll reappear. So, not sure if it's an issue with Messenger, the Contacts app, or something else.

Anyone seen these issues?

I'm going to give Textra a chance and see how it works. Sometimes Google Messenger wants to hang when sending messages for me.

Google Messenger.

I used Hangouts for both SMS & IM when I had my N4; but since Google bundled Messenger with my N6, I tried it and haven't looked back.

Last couple days, using Messenger, if I try to attach a pic it only shows the 6-10 photos stored on phone and none of my Google Photos. It used to, but not anymore.

I use Messenger. Would be Hangouts with Google Voice number if WiFi Calling was still unsupported, but ever since it has been, I've stuck with the default carrier and Messenger since they both function pretty much the same now as GVoice + Hangouts when over WiFi.

If group messaging and MMS on Messenger and Hangouts would work properly on T-Mobile I'd use either of them. But Textra is the only one that'll play nice for me.

I was using Messenger and liked it, but it doesn't have what I need from Android Wear integration.

I use 8sms, it is the only app I have found that will let you mark a text as "read" from the watch

Google Messenger. Although I may give Textra another try soon.
