What notch?

I'm confused - the photo in post 18 shows status/notifications in the black band hiding the notch. The photo in post 23 shows status/notifications below the black band. Which is it? Or is position a settings choice (which seems unlikely)?

And also I've read that the notch interferes with some apps and video play back, will hiding the notch fix that problem?

With video playback you should be able to zoom out of extended mode. I believe most games won't fill the corners... at least it doesn't on the iPhone. Disabling the notch view might remedy any issues.

That notch should not be a deciding factor. I am using the iPhone Xs and I forget about it when I actually use the phone. Still up in the air on if I will get a Pixel device. I have become to dang accustomed to iMessage since my ENTIRE family and work staff have iPhones.

Good or Bad

I think the pixel 3/3xl is an awesome device, that notch tho, for a moment I thought Google was trolling all of us with the leaks for something different and doing what it does with one camera on the back is very amazing, big ups for that, I think they concentrate more on software cos they know if the software is good and hardware wouldn't really matter to some people, don't get me wrong but it's a beautiful device, that 'notch pink' tho, they should redesign on the next models and that price rise tho, last year's release had a much lower price ..

Re: Good or Bad

The notch is too big IMO. Not a fan of it at all just because of that.

The notch really has me worried. I was okay with the iPhone and OnePlus notches, but this one is so big. Oh well, it will cost $35 to try it if I don't like it.

I'm curious about the shear size of the notch as well. When you get yours, let us late adopters know if it's truly an issue or if you get used to it/like it.

Re: Good or Bad

I think the notch is too big as well. Especially when you hide it, the black band has to be so thick.

Re: Good or Bad

Bear in mind that Google isn't a hardware company and doesn't have the muscle in the hardware industry that Apple and Samsung do. That's why the hardware designs aren't bleeding edge. Pixel phones are a vehicle for the latest Android updates and Google apps and services. That's their niche, not the hardware itself.

IF I go for the Pixel it'll be the smaller one and I normally always go for the larger devices. The notch is God awful and as much as I want to get used to it, it just shocks me everytime I see it. The smaller Pixel has almost everything the XL has anyway and battery life will be about the same as will screen size once you hide the notch.

Why not black out the notch area by default and still have the icons (wifi, time, battery etc) at the top of black out region in white color? From what I have seen it looks like you can black out the notch but the icons get push down and reduce the real estate which makes no sense.
