What notch?

Why not black out the notch area by default and still have the icons (wifi, time, battery etc) at the top of black out region in white color? From what I have seen it looks like you can black out the notch but the icons get push down and reduce the real estate which makes no sense.

Yeah my 1+ 6 does that , it's stupid to push the notification back down into the display.

Yea and Google is supposed to be best in software I am sure they can make the black out region with notifications look perfect if they want to. I find it funny that at the Google Pixel 3 live event they even use some dark space wall paper and camera angle to try to hide the notch from the presentation.

Apple also did that...they know people are not fond about the notch, if Google made that notch a little better it would of sold more people to it .

I'm pretty sure that I can get used to the notch. I had been thining of the Pixel 3 as a more convenient size, but the screen res just isn't there. So, I'm going for the XL, notch notwithstanding.

The notch size is ridiculous and Google's 'hide' setting is terrible. It just blacks out the screen next to the notch, but pushes down the notification bar, so it pretty much becomes a phone with a full top bezel.... What?

Wht can't they just have the notifications and clock in the black part. Guess it'd make too much sense?

They probably will do that down the road because right now everything in development settings to remove the notch which means they didn't add it yet just expirementing.

Though they can do it later I'm puzzled as to why they went the route they did.

I ordered the 64GB white pixel 3XL! I am super excited. If you're excited about it and could care less about that Notch... Sound off here! With that space being functional on a wide-angle camera I am super excited about the notch! Bring It On!

I am really not concerned with the notch. Then again, I don't see the fuss about super narrow bezels either. The price on the other hand...

I don't like the notch, but I ordered one and if I can't "hide" it and or get used to it. I will just return in and get a Note 9. LOL since I am trading in the XL2.
Man do yourself a favor and look at the detail in a front-facing photo. All that stuff about Samsung's filters and image smoothing is real. Since the day I sold my pixel 2 XL.. I've been chasing detail and photographs with several third-party camera applications and nothing compares to the quality of the detail in a zoomed-in image taken from a pixel

This one is actually smaller than the iPhone notch. Phone arena shows it off:

The area of the iPhone XS Max notch is roughly 45.6% more than the area of the Pixel 3 XL notch. And the iPhone doesn't use that area for notifications, so it is serving less of a purpose.
My point exactly! Do something functional in that space if anything. That's exactly what Google did!

I can understand telling me you do not like skinny jeans or wearing them. They are not functional at all your phone does not fit in your pocket etcetera. Telling me that you have a problem with a notch on a phone which is fully functional... I'm a little bit confused.. it houses a wide-angle camera as well as the best camera in a smartphone on the market to date! Why would someone have an issue with it being there?

Horrible analogy... Enjoy your new phones! 7 days and counting

Have you seen how it integrates with YouTube? There is some footage out. No need to turn it off.

No not on the pixel 3xl haven't seen how it handles YouTube, but on my 1+6 I left the notch on and it cuts out some content, so I have the option to turn it off in that app . I'm assuming Google will do the same.

Has anyone measured the actual viewable screen dimensions with the notch hidden? I just can't watch media with that notch cutting into my vision. So what's the true screen size?

I'm hoping so. There's quite a bit of reviewer content out there online. Plus it sounds as though you can already head to Best Buy and play around with the phones which is pretty cool.

Only thing you couldn't test the audio they didn't set it up yet to WiFi

I ordered the 3XL will try it out and see. Since I can "hide" the notch.... it is no big deal. If I hate it I will trade out for the Note 9, hopefully the will have a port of the Goggle camera if it comes to that.
