What phone are you coming from?

Those who intend to pick up a Nexus 5, what phone are you coming from?

Switch from rarz m but if they take too long long and not really any touch less control may just go with republic wireless moto x

Really? I was hoping that at least one of the main Moto X features would make it into the next Nexus (either touchless interaction or active notifications). I was thinking it would be more likely for touchless interactions to make the cut into stock android. I'm looking forward to whatever new software features are introduced in KitKat though. We'll find out soon!

Edit: Whoops forgot to quote Patrick.

I'd like to see them too, but I'm going to refer to a couple posts I've already made on the issue:

The first is here. The point I make is that incorporating listening and hotwording functionality into a launcher-dependent experience (along the lines of the "Google Experience Launcher" rumors) enables such functionality for anyone who uses said launcher and whose device includes a microphone. If they were to go with the 'proper' touchless control experience, it must be offloaded to purpose-built hardware in order to provide an acceptable user experience (primarily by avoiding excessive standby battery draw). This significantly restricts feature adoption due to such hardware support requirements.

The second post (well, technically it's a comment) is from Google+. I'll quote it, but it can also be found here.

Let's make sure we're all on the same page here. The S800 requires no 'additional cores' for this type of low-power standby processing (contextually-aware applications included). The SoC includes the Hexagon DSP, which is intended specifically for these purposes. I do believe LG is working on taking advantage of this, so it's not as far of a stretch as some may believe. Whether or not LG and Google have the intention of incorporating this into the upcoming Nexus phone is anyone's guess.

That said, incorporating hardware-dependent software features into AOSP Android isn't an insignificant task or decision, and such additions to the platform must be well-executed. It has happened before, as seen with Android Beam and NFC, and to some extent the addition of WiFi Direct support.

My point was more or less that it's certainly possible for Google to implement such functionality with the Nexus 5 (again, due to the Hexagon DSP included in the S800), and although it remains implausible, it's not as impossible as some were saying when talk of the Nexus 5 was just picking up. Hardware-reliant features have been added to Android in the past.

iPhone 5 here. This will be my first leap into the android world, very excited!

Galaxy Note 1. The old girl is getting long in the tooth, needs to be charged twice a day to stay above 50% battery...just time for a change.

You've picked the perfect phone to experience Android with. Enjoy exploring it ;)

The Nexus line peaked my interest the most given that it is pure android. The phone fits everything I could ask for that my iPhone does not. There will be things I will miss about iOS, but I am glad to jump the iOS ship. Plus I can still sell my iPhone for the cost of the Nexus off contract, can't get much better than that. Plus next year when my contract comes up I can get the the new iPhone at contract price, sell it, and profit!!! And maybe go Nexus 6 as well, or whatever they will call it then!

While you are right about almost everything here, and I have owned only Nexus devices since the Nexus S, I should point out that Nexus phones are not "pure Android." They are pure Google. Pure Android would be AOSP only, and the Nexus 5 will come with several of the AOSP components replaced by Google's versions - Google Keyboard instead of AOSP keyboard, Google Experience Launcher, etc. While Google's enhancements to Android are subtle and blend in with pure Android pretty much unnoticeably, Nexus devices are Google experience devices, not pure Android devices.

There are in fact no devices released with "pure Android." But pure Google is pure bliss. Enjoy!

As you can see I am truly an android beginner, I did not know that, so thank you for the correction! I have a lot to learn, now UPS just needs to hurry it up!!

Uh nexus 4 in the lead? Interesting.
Tells me ppl like the nexus experience, no like skins, want the latest. N4 is still a relevant phone yet lots want the newest.
Yeah I'm kicking my n4 to the curb too.

I been having a lot of fish lately. Toro, Mako and Hammerhead.

If you don't what this post means, you don't know your nexus phones very well. :)

I hate say this I own Xperia ZL. Bought it on release so obviously at a premium price so INR 36000. Now they are releasing so many premium offers to z series phones z/z1/z ultra and none of this are available to ZL. I hate Sony. I'm sorry if I posted in wrong section. This is an experience buying a Sony phone. That's why I'm looking to change it soon
