Android Central Question

I've not kept up with phone releases for the last few years. My last 2 phones have been the LG G2 and the Sony Z5c. And since I cracked the G2's screen about 3 times and now dropped the Z5c down a bar toilet for an evening - I'm in need of a new phone.

I would like as close to stock android as possible.

I would like a full HD screen (something I missed with the Sony)

I would like a quick processor with a minimum of 2/3gb RAM. (Micro SD card slot would be good although if its 32GB + i don't mind not having one.

I would also like it to have as good a camera as possible and be no bigger than the G2's 5.2' screen.

I would also like it to be as cheap as possible.

Can you make any recommendations?

Thank you - much appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! The screen size is the main limitation here. Is it really the screen size you're concerned about, or the phone's overall size? With bezels on phones getting smaller and smaller, the same size phone can house a bigger screen.

The regular sized Pixel 2 might be your best bet. You can get the 1st gen Pixel for even cheaper, but the battery on that one is supposed to be worse.

Also consider the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact: https://www.sonymobile.com/us/products/phones/xperia-xz1-compact/

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact really can be the best choice in this case. One of my friends has it and I can say that its screen is really big and amazing, as also the cam, it's probably one of the best among many other brand models. But it case of price it isn't cheap, as I remember it cost smth like $500 and it's rather expensive for a smartphone. If you're ok with that, than I think it's worth buying, besides I suppose that there are no very cheap models with all that characteristics you want :D
You can try for example Microsoft Lumia 950 too, it has HD screen too and cam with even better quality (20 mg for back and 5 for front one) but it's even more expensive that previously mentioned Sony model.
Try to check also resources with specializations and reviews for various models https://linkto-blog.com/ for possible cheaper ideas. But again saving a great amount of money for such phone isn't possible.
