I was just texting a friend a few minutes ago, when my phone suddenly went black and rebooted.

What?
Why?

Has this been happening to anyone else?

It only happened once, but I just thought it was not supposed to happen after the update?

Maybe somehow I went back to the old version?

I did restart and turn off my phone today for different reasons, but I doubt that changed anything.

Should I be worried?

Happening occasionally isn't that big of a deal, there are a million reasons it could happen. I wouldn't panic unless it becomes a constant issue.

I have had 2 that I know of since the update. To the best of my knowledge, never had one before. One was early August, in Orlando. Several severe storms seemed to knock out 4G where I was, and when it came back up, I got the reboot. The second was a couple of weeks ago, south of Atlanta, right on the fringe of 4G coverage.

Yeah, it's just like any other computer...

The rare, occasional reboot is nothing to worry about, in fact, you can think of it as a defense mechanism. Just like a BSOD (blue screen of death) in Windows, it's better to have your phone stop all processes and reboot, then to get all jacked up when something goes wrong.

Now, when the reboots become a regular occurrence -- that usually indicates a more serious problem with the hardware/software, and not just a random glitch.

I just had a reboot as I was updating my apps from the Market. In the middle of an update, I wasn't watching, it rebooted. In the past the random reboots would be silent but this one acted like a power-on or manual restart, complete with the cool sound effect. Odd. I've had a couple of others but it was when I was using RunKeeper and I Heart Radio at the same time and accidentally shutting off data by hitting the data widget I have on the home screen. After I re-enabled the data the radio app came back on then reboot. This happened twice so I think this is just a weird software thing with these 2 apps running at the same time and shutting off data. I can duplicate that one so I'm not too worried about it. However, the reboot while updating Market apps has me a bit concerned.

You might want to think about getting a replacement. Sounds like your issues are starting to pile up quickly! Sucks.

Does anyone have any idea what causes these reboots? I plan on installing a custom ROM when I get my TBolt (hopefully tomorrow), so hopefully that prevents the issue.

But this issue just seems way too common to be a unit-specific problem.

Its not common at all anymore. A software update in July fixed almost all of the reboot problems. If someone is unlucky enough to get a phone that is still rebooting, its a hardware issue but is not very common anymore.
